The unrequited love is reeeeeeeeeal!!!!!

I got kicked off of FB because my account was fake (I swear I had legit reasons for not wanting my info on social media)--but it kinda feels like a blessing. Thanks for the report! It feels like cushioning the blow, in a way ;p Dang, bummer about Amherst though--my absolute fave school....
-
oh gawd a fiction acceptance was posted for UMass Amherst noooooooooo
-
Has draft reported any more notifications after the wustl? if anyone feels like double posting, that'd be cooool I can join the notification cherry-breaking team---just rejected from Syracuse. Glum, but the blow was softened by already knowing it would come. Seriously, twenty rejections would make me pretty sad.
-
take some time to go outside, y'all! It will do you a world of good, even if for just a few minutes. also, those syracuse rumors from last week were legit--poets notified. ....is it possible to get rejected from 20 programs? o.o
-
@Hortense , from what I've heard/gleaned, U. Florida and UC Irvine are big on "experimental"
-
@manandcamel Ahh, actually you bring up my biggest question about ND---I was accepted to the MFA program a couple years ago and was thrilled---the director and professors in the program are very open, very amenable to experimentation, and very kind. But I never had the guts to ask how....Catholic...the place was. Seriously, no offense meant to any religious folk here, but I was curious how certain tendencies toward narrow-mindedness imbibed by certain religious institutions permeated South Bend on a grander scale...

@schlockandawe also add brooklyn to the list of schools that interview I, too, wondered how feasible it would be to have a full work load (teaching 2/2) while attempting to surrender oneself completely to creative impulse/prowess/imaginings. I've held full time jobs throughout my academic career, though, and it does seem like the critical engagement required to teach would enhance rather than deplete creative writing juices. But, yea, a program with diverse opportunity would be phenomenal--I hope y'all applied to WashU---that program is so kickass-seeming from out here.
-
That would be interesting! But alas, it's for intensive language study. I'm dreading/curious to know how our latest u.s. nightmares are going to be reflected in how we're received abroad (especially in regions like south asia)
-
still complete silence on my end (of 20 schools o.o) but I'm shortlisted for a fellowship to study in Pakistan--signs?
-
thank you @Hortense for disclosing the syracuse info--yea, that was an acceptance, afterall (the person private messaged me after)--specifically, we're Not supposed to flood the adcoms with "what's going on" emails, and that's why the post got deleted. But yea, at least poetry acceptances have happened for syracuse and Minnesota--it felt good to find Something out, and at this point I feel like abandoning the refresh button is our best bet for sanity.

syracuse and minnesota have notified accepted folk

@Cengstro Yes, I'm applying in poetry, but I'm at Iowa right now for translation, and we're working on a bunch of collaboration with the other mfa folk---the grantwood fellows are really amazing this year, and the new arts building is fancy af- 2,106 replies

uh ya-- the Johns Hopkins faculty is shocking--not to mention confusing, if you consider it's in Baltimore. It makes me very curious about the workshop dynamic and how that might be affected. but their stipend and program structure seem pretty amazing. ps an abroad poet applicant just got an email from syracuuuuuuuuse O.O

I'm experiencing indecipherable physical events due to the possibility of hearing back from WUSTL in the coming week. It's futile to deduce, but it seems rejections may come first, and have generally appeared around that time o.o what have i becooooooooome

@slouching, @Hortense those resources are great--thanks! And that interview gives some awesome insight into the program (and made me more excited about it!) I do think though, with regard to divining program fit, that it's almost impossible to know how well you'll do/feel at any given program without experiencing it. I think applying widely is a good decision, because the adcoms probably have a better sense of applicant fit from the inside than we can from the outside. do you have any random/wild cards on your list?. for me, it's Wyoming--a complete outlier for me (in diversity/geography)--but my correspondence with them was so open and considerate i just went for it.

I was curious about the funding situation for U. Washington-Seattle. Is it fully funded for all accepted? I applied there based on positive alumni feedback, but didn't get that much from the website. What more might you know of that program?
-
i love 'what's your favorite program' questions---good distraction! (Aside from the obvious//perpetually intangible Brown,) UMass Amherst (for poetry) is my top choice. Three years of full funding in a vibrant location with plenty of opportunity for cross-disciplinary work would be fabulous. Wisconsin seems fabulous, too---the alumni I've contacted all extol the program's rigor and cross-genre practice. =D

I've returned to some much loved sports---physical activity (esp. with peeps) seems to really help. I'm wringing my hands for uminn and wustl too! everything points to them being early notifiers. I'm rooting for you, stranger folk! it'd be really cool if someone on here got into a program they loved

Yes! You're in good company, us all here in this one boat. The real possibility of being rejected from every which way is nightmarish indeed. though i've been having hopeful sleep dreams of actual mfa directors strolling through the woods with me to chat about life and things
