  1. yea, part of the conceit of this group feels like a collectively self-acknowledged masochism...like, i’ve long ago bitten the evil apple and in that spirit would definitely want more brutalizing news rather than less.
  2. how to gwt Any Millenial to crack a nuclear code: promise epic meme delivery xD
  3. @placeinspacefeelin this hard--the precipice of no return is palpably nearing.
  4. @jadeisokay oh man, anecdote fun. i just did one of those crazy pre-records for a job--i don't have electricity so had to leech wifi outside various buildings. i was accosted and 'hit-on' by various, seemingly drunk or opiodally-influenced transients (my town has a problem) *several* times. Like, As i was answering the questions. by the last question it was dark out and i was recording it blairwitch-style.
  5. @jonnyboy, ah, revolutionary info! Do you think this is *just* UChicago's practice, or a universal approach? I get the sense that some schools interview their ''shortlist of candidates.'' In a fever I found this albeit dated little article from Yale, sort of documenting reticence around the shift in humanities to interview: https://yaledailynews.com/blog/2012/01/11/grad-school-divided-over-interviews/ My UCSC acceptance came without an interview, which may be precisely why I was accepted. I swear I'm not a monster, but my interviews (so far, all Skype) *always* spiral into chaos--for me, the tech interface Essentially deforms what could be meaningful, telepathic communication into a solipsistic fugue-state. I know it's important to field candidates in some form of human-interaction, but Skype don't cut iiiiiiitttt.
  6. @j.alicea Oooo!!!!!! All of that is so exciting!!! Yea, what scared me most about the impending funds news was how extremely nice the email and call were...like...too nice, right? and the email says they know how much funding will play a factor in my decision...breath batedddddd
  7. ran out of reacts but @dilby hahahahahaha couldn't've invented funnier
  8. omg thanks y'all! this is seriously just the beginning for this thread, and i sense in a Big Way. Even just from our quippy posts I can tell it's a room full o genius. n then the funny sobering comes...cuz..i wonder if the funding makes it a struggle at UCSC after all...info to come, apparently edit: side-note just to say, this feels extra crazy because none of my family has ever graduated high school.
  9. tfw u butt dial an unknown number the person hears some weird orgy shiz n then says Hey u accepted to santa cruuuuuiz WTF?!?!?!?!?!

  13. waaaay outta left field...but all this iamb got me wonderin if we should just....write songs?...here? it seems we're collectively odd enough to conjure such a phenomenon (i secretly have a too-strange bandcamp of weirdness if anyone feels inclined to be disturbed)
  14. just had my interview. horrifying. learned it’s possible to leave almost everything unsaid while somehow saying too much.
  15. @placeinspace ahhh, agree with above! if you get an acceptance somewhere, give them a chance!!! program compatibility is basically invisible alchemy—visit! talk to profs!

  22. @FiguresIII and fellow comp litters—-does anyone have any stats/knowings re: how many//which schools typically interview, and which don’t? could be useful data, and finding out could keep us delightfully distracted (hinthint) edit: for starters, i know that CUNY grad center and penn state do...
