  1. My new place sent me the lease documents. I signed all of them, made copies for myself, and mailed the originals back with the deposit check. Sent everything with delivery confirmation to have a record that they received my stuff.
  2. I definitely relate to this thread also, you should have seen me trying to explain what Biostatistics is to my family and co-workers. I'm not going for a PHD but I am the first female in my extended family to go to college, period. My Dad got a bachelor's degree on the GI Bill after serving in the Korean War but he was the only one to go to college before me. If you want another good book to read on this subject I very highly recommend "Limbo: Blue Collar Roots, White Collar Dreams" by Alfred Lubrano. It is amazing. http://www.amazon.co...78968883&sr=1-1
  3. I'm registered for classes and have a furnished apartment lined up in Chapel Hill. I just finished a pretty intense undergrad summer class in Probability that I think will help me a bit in my grad school Probability/Stat Inference class. I'm also learning a bit of SAS programming on my own before I get down there. In a couple weeks I'm driving a carload of stuff the 700 miles to NC, stopping to visit relatives on the way. I'll be getting a feel for the city, the bus system, etc. for a few days. I will then be going back to RI for a couple weeks and making the final move in mid-August. Right now I'm getting some work done on my car that I've put off forever. I'm starting to get kind of down since I'll be leaving my husband and dog behind. I just got a 4th year PHD student as my "buddy" to talk to about the department/school. Like a lot of folks I feel like I'll be the most unprepared person entering the program.
  4. Quitting work in 2 weeks and then taking 2 summer classes until early July. After that I'll have about 6 weeks until I have to move for grad school, during this time I'll visit my parents, go to Maine for a weekend with my husband, and be a housewife for the first time in my life.
  5. UnlikelyGrad, Yeah, my husband is really supportive and we'll be able to see each other once a month I think, plus e-mail and calls so we'll make it through. I've actually been reading your blog during my application cycle and it's given me some hope. Also like your blog since you talk about flying on Southwest Airlines, I've worked there as a baggage handler since late 2004, haha!
  6. I'll be 42 when I start grad school in the Fall. I'm really excited about it but dreading being away from my husband (and dog!) for a good portion of the year. They'll be staying in RI since we own a home and my husband has a good job, while I'll be in North Carolina going to school. It'll also be a bit of a culture shock going from working a manual labor job full time and going to school part time to just going to school full time. Like a lot of folks have said on here, my life experience has given me the determination and focus to see this through even though it will be hard.
  7. I'll be going to UNC-Chapel Hill for Biostatistics MS
  8. I was able to order score reports over the phone a few hours ago (11:30 am) thank goodness, still wouldn't let me use the on-line ordering. Thank God I'm done with all my score reporting now so I never have to deal with ETS again.
  9. Powerprep I was scoring 580-620 V and 750-780 Q, actual GRE score 620 V/700 Q. Math part was harder/more complicated than Powerprep, Verbal part was equal.
  10. I'm not currently in either one of these professions, but I am a Math major applying to a Statistics MS program. There are a decent number of Statistician jobs in the Federal Government that pay well, have great benefits and job security. As a veteran I believe you would receive preference in Government hiring, so an MS in Statistics might be a great move for you.
  11. Practice tests I was scoring 570-620 Verbal and 750-780 Quant (Powerprep), actual scores 620 Verbal and 700 Quant. Maybe I was just unlucky with the Quant section but I found most of the actual test questions a lot more complicated and time consuming than the practice. I wasn't able to finish the section. My lesser performance probably also had a lot to do with how stressed I was and fatigue. Verbal difficulty was exactly in line with the Powerprep I thought.
