  1. Amen. Hate that test. I took it twice and definitely improved the second time. The nice thing about Magoosh and retaking the test is that they guarantee a certain number of increase in points or a refund. Pretty worth it! The videos are way helpful and soooo many practice questions. Check it out.
  2. I had a program email me about the open house and they suggested that 'most students are most comfortable in 'business casual' but you're welcome to wear whatever is best for you.' It might depend on how long and intense your open house is. If it's super short like an hour I wouldn't worry as much. Or if you'll be walking around campus a lot. I might bring my khakis or black pants and be a step up from jeans. I'd avoid sweatpants and just look relatively professional (even in jeans) and you're probably fine.
  3. I got an email that was an unofficial offer of admission a couple weeks ago and then I logged onto my application where the formal offer was. They might be waiting for people to accept or decline before sending out more offers? You could always give them a call and see if they will tell you anything. Good luck!
  4. I got in too! This decision is much harder than I anticipated. I think they are making decisions about funding right now (it would be nice to know soon!). If I get funding that could definitely change things. I visited Charlottesville last year although I only drove around campus, didn't actually visit. But Virginia is beautiful and Monticello is nearby. They have some clinical opportunities listed on their website. It looks like we do one child externship, one adult, and then one semester of a clinical internship pretty much anywhere we want to go which sounds pretty cool. Great opportunity to get more experience and it doesn't have to be in Virginia. Are you going to visit at all?
  5. I definitely want my own place. I've been burned lately with roommates - people never doing dishes, eating my food, etc. I'd be nervous about moving in with strangers again. I spend most of my time at home alone anyway; I'm ready to just be able to clean and organize things the way I want it. There's a chance I'd consider one roommate if I got to know them well enough for second year or if the rent would be pretty cheap. I'm mostly concerned about avoiding undergrads who are partying all the time or dangerous/run down neighborhoods.
  6. Nice! I can't make the open houses but I'm visiting in two weeks. I've heard a lot of cool things about MSU but I do want to visit before deciding. If you want to know more about the program I've found out quite a bit! So there's a website that talks about different labs. I don't know that all of them offer funding but I think several do. Here's a link to the research labs: http://cas.msu.edu/places/departments/communicative-sciences-disorders/research/laboratories/ Thanks! That's good to hear! Do you have any insights about East Lansing in general or apartments?
  7. I have not heard. I won't accept even if I get offered but no I haven't gotten anything. It might be another week or two.
  8. As far as tuition, it looks like it's about $15000 a semester (30k a year) for non-residents. I've been emailing a professor there and he said they don't usually offer research assistantships to incoming MA students but students do sometimes earn money by working in a research lab. He's going to give me more information about that but that's about all I know.
  9. Feel free to pm me! Awesome!! Congrats! Definitely a great program.
  10. Whooohoo! Love seeing another second year applicant get in finally! Is it st Ambrose? It's in my hometown!
  11. Awesome congrats!! That's gotta be a huge relief.
  12. That's so odd! Mine doesn't say anything and I was waitlisted. I don't understand why you wouldn't have heard. Definitely contact them! Maybe just give them a call tomorrow that way you don't have to be worried all weekend if they don't reply to your email. I hope things work out for you!
  13. Have you been to the Logan/USU area before? I've never actually been on campus there but the area is nice enough. Lots of mountains. Hopefully you can go to the open house! I wish I had a little more time to make visits; it'll be tough to squeeze in 2-3 across the country in the next few weeks but I really want to.
  14. Ugh I have no idea! It bounces between cost, location, and things I like about the programs. I do feel lucky to have multiple offers but choosing where to go is a rollercoaster. I really hope to visit my top 3 just so I can avoid having regrets about not choosing a program (hopefully). I haven't heard anything about funding for a couple; if I got really good funding that could be a game changer otherwise it'll probably be what I like most about the program. They each have such different structures and possibilities which makes it tough. I guess at the end of two years I'll still have a good education, some debt, and the freedom to go somewhere else if I want.
  15. Awesome! Congrats! Do you think you're gonna go there? I got high tier wait listed so I'm not too disappointed. I'll probably take one of my offers.
  16. I'm starting to consider uva more seriously but I hope to visit some schools first. I heard they are in the process of making financial aid decisions/funding or whatever so hopefully we'll hear soon. That could make a difference for me. Love the Virginia area. It's a nice place!
  17. That's kinda random. The dean of students? I just got waitlisted there but the email was from the Academic advisor, one of the people I talked to during the interview. I just saw your post. That's ridiculous that you didn't get a waitlist even after an interview! Apparently the waitlist has 3 'tiers.' I really wonder how many people are even on it. I only saw about 30 slots for interviews. Good to know. I was hoping to hear this week. It's my last school that I have any slight interest in so I'm just ready to know yes or no. Good luck.
  18. I'm a fan of having a midwest thread! I don't know much about your programs so I can't be too helpful there. I want to try and talk to some students at different programs and get their thoughts. Maybe you could find a facebook group for UND or Minot and message someone?
  19. Awesome! Congrats! Way to keep going. Going through this process twice was hard enough but that's so exciting for you to finally make it all worth it!
  20. I think every school and year is different. I was wait listed at purdue last year (and this year as of today) and they emailed us in April or May and said they would be unable to accept anyone off the wait list. The results forum shows that some people have made it off the list there in other years but not in 2014. My guess is that purdue has a top program and so it is less likely that someone would reject that offer. With other schools I couldn't say. It might make a difference how high a program is ranked as well as how expensive. Some might reject an expensive school for a cheaper one. That's about all I know. But don't give up hope and appreciate that you weren't outright rejected from a top school.
  21. Hey! I wouldn't give up hope yet. A lot of schools send out a wave of acceptances and wait to see who accepts the offer. Then from that number they know how many more they can offer. I assume once they fill up their offers they will then inform people of rejections. I think they do it instead of a waitlist but I don't really know for sure. But it's not uncommon to send out a few offers first. Good luck!! I've gotten an offer from UVA but I haven't decided anything yet since I have a couple more schools to hear from. But if I decline I hope that helps you!
  22. Congrats! I have also received an offer but haven't made any decisions. I'm curious about funding; they were hoping to have news around now. Have you heard anything? Have you visited the program?
  23. Congrats! I've been accepted but have not decided whether I will be attending. I'm hoping to visit at some point but it will depend on a few other schools and how much time I can dedicate to campus visits. Is MSU your top choice? Are you an out of state student? I'm a little concerned about the cost of tuition but it seems like a unique program.
  24. There are 3 rejections from Purdue today on the results forum but nothing else! Seems odd that no one has posted an acceptance or waitlist. I got a waitlist last year at the end of February. I wonder if anyone has gotten an acceptance yet.
  25. Not bad. I think I struggled a little with why I applied to USU but I felt pretty good about the other questions. They sure wanted to know how I felt about supervisors and talking to them. They also mentioned the decision should be made by the 15th so I bet we'll know by next week sometime. How was yours?
