Lol!! Sometimes people post acceptances from Hogwarts or rejections from University of Phoenix. I just die.

Thanks, I appreciate the confidence I'm stoked about the programs I've gotten into, but I know how you feel. We all invested a lot of time, effort and ourselves into applying to these programs, so it's natural to want to wait it out to see where the cards fall. It's awesome you had such a good experience with your POI at UNC. That place is stellar! Are you visiting the campus?

Gambaosaka -- thanks! I'm still pretty nervous about IU and Madison. I'm withdrawing applications to 2 programs (and have declined Abany), but the rest are all still strong contenders in my estimation. Wasn't UNC your tippy top choice? Rejection sucks, but I'm glad you have a choice already! The Stanford comments are hilarious, but I tend to like funny comments ("shouldn't have sent all those nude photos") over the angry ones. TMP that rejection letter is painful. There is no reason for them to phrase it so douchey (and this is coming from someone who holds IU in high esteem!) Looks like Friday was a slow day other than Stanford. Does anyone think any programs will notify this weekend? What're your guesses for next programs to "pull the trigger" (as telkanuru so elegantly put it)?

I think you're totally right gambaosaka...a rejection is a rejection. But they might as well be nice about it, IMO. It's Stanford's loss. You guys are clearly amazing.

Sorry Josh screw em!
-
Admitted sounds like an acceptance to me. Do you mean submitted?
-
Third! I am more than willing to have heated debates about history with y'all, but that doesn't mean we can't be kind to and support one another

The literature and philosophy boards are fairly active like us, but that's pretty much it. It's obviously because we're way more awesome
-
On that note, I'm out of upvotes! But seriously, we should keep in touch after we're all immersed in our fabulous PhD programs next term! It'll be nice to have a group to commiserate with over comps and other grad school hurdles. I'm sure we will run into each other at conferences, too. Who knows, we may be reviewing one another's books in the near future

Congrats telkanuru!!

This is courtesy of someone in my discipline. I wish I knew who, so I could high-five them. "I knew I shouldn't have sent all of those nude photos. Live and learn."
-
Bummer, sorry about that. Hopefully it'll show up soon!

FYI to Minnesota applicants--my application decision is finally up on the ApplyYourself website, so if you're still in limbo you may want to check the site.

I actually thought the Northwestern one was much colder. I doubt a warm rejection would feel much better, though.
-
I'm so sorry Heimat Im glad they notified quickly, and I am keeping my fingers crossed tight for your next notification to be an acceptance.
-
I don't want to ask but I want to ask...were the IU rejection emails generic? Anyone want to dish some info?
-
Fianna, thanks for the information. I think my stomach feels even worse now haha

This probably won't make anyone feel better, but I think sometimes the second wave isn't set in stone. They have to hear back from the first wave before contacting the second because of funding issues. Sometimes they may have to see if the first wave got funded through university-wide fellowships--if not, they get funded through TAships that might've gone to someone in the second wave. It's impossible for them to notify a second wave when they aren't sure if they can even accept everyone in that wave. Now people who are for sure rejections are another story. I hate that some programs leave those for dead last.

Congrats kblooms!!!!

Congrats to the Harvard admit!!

I've been told there will be beers haha they're seriously pulling out all the stops

I feel like it must be if my professors are suggesting it. I don't think it'll hurt as long as you're tactful about it. I was basically told, mention to programs that you're concerned about going into debt and if there is anything more they could do. I probably won't because I feel weirded out about it, but I can see why it's worth a shot. It's not like you'd be a diva or expect an exorbitant amount of money, it's pretty reasonable to want enough food and book money haha
-
This is the god's honest truth...I don't even know what the hell happened to me this cycle haha But seriously, I'd give all you guys acceptances if I could! I still believe you will get in somewhere great
-
Oh, rejection sucks no matter what. And even with acceptances, it's stressful waiting for other programs to notify. However, I think all of us with great programs under our belts need to be conscious of the fact that many of our forum friends are struggling with anxiety, wondering if they'll get in anywhere at all. I don't think it's fair to ask that acceptees not celebrate their successes or air their concerns (and no one on this board has done so, because everyone here is frigging awesome!), but I think it behooves us as conscientious people to temper our enthusiasm and/or concerns, knowing that regardless of our struggles now, we are going to a doctoral program--especially considering how many people don't have the luxury of that certainty. Our problem now isn't if we are going, but where we are going...and so many people would love to have that problem.
