  1. I agree with you a 100%.. And I actually don't think they will toss the applications aside just like that (i do hope so!!) - but I believe that they might sort them separately and look through them later in order to find the most extraordinary candidates first... maybe
  2. Just completed my applications, so I guess I can join the predictions now I don't know how much my finacial aid from fulbright will help along but i'm rather pessimistic - at least today some chances: 2 hopefully, but not too sure: 1 i guess i need some lucky underwear...: 3
  3. I am sure that these results will be good enough even for top ten - if the rest of your profile is excellent. Because as much as I know and as I truly hope, they will look at the whole packet rather than just test results. But your 990 sounds fabulous. Congrats
  4. Good for what? I think anything above 1300 should be ok for most places, but it's definitely not the greatest score... My scores are very similar (also international student) - Q750 V560 AW 3.5 - I think the worst of it is AW, but then again a lot of people say that they don't look at it so much. It was my second try at GRE, first time I got 4.5... Bluntly, I just hate GRE
  5. Just letting you know that my advisor in Fulbright who has probably been helping people to apply for years said that schools accept late scores without any problem! They know it's ETS problem and not the students, so if you can, try not to be in panic
  6. I'm from Baltics. I have worked in human genetics mainly. last two years in reproductive genetics. Now I'm looking for more practical applications for genetics in medicine - therefore translational researsh

you can try to apply outside of the country... Europe still enjoys the free education in a number of countries... PhD is considered a job that you get payed for.
  9. how come you ended up applying to pharmacology after all the telomers and immunology?
  10. How important is it to have been talked to a professor from the school? It seems like you have enlisted it in you SOP as a must... Due to my fulbright funding I'm not allowed to make any contact with the schools myself (all goes through the scholarship office) and therefore I have not contacted anyone - most of my professional contacts from conferences etc are europeans. Is this going to be the sad end of my story?
  11. i do hope so! thanks. luckily there's tons of other things to panic about so I've moved on to other problems
  12. I've got the opposite problem - sent my LOR an email today officially requesting the letter for three programs (we had briedly discussed it before) - about 40 minutes after submitting him at the online application environments I received an email: "all done". I went and checked the status - they were really all completed... it's kind of scary as well. and i waived my write to see them ... I guess now it's all up to trust
  13. well, who can say NO to a nice smiling face it's againts our nature...
  14. It will sound crazy, but as I got the fulbright ST award, the policy is: 4 great schools, 2 safer schools. So my greats are Yale, Harvard, Stanford, WashU. And safe ones U of Michigan and Case Western Reserve University. Don't have a clue how to get into the greats. Fortunately I have help from the fulb. people to get through the process and also the comfort that i already got the scholarship, so maybe it's not totally impossible...
  15. It does sound great! I'm happy sth like this has helped you a lot. Unfortunately for an international student it's not an option usually - way too expensive. Another one of those disadvantages I have...
  16. I'm going for 6 schools. That's a limit made by the fulbright scholarship I have. But I don't think I could keep track of more either - it's already loads of work.
  17. the GRE I took in May had one fill in question in math section - although i don't know for sure, I think it was not in the experimental section. this time I had to do an experimental Analytical writing - it was horrible... But I knew it wouldn't count, because it was so different. I just feel sorry for the next generations...
  18. I just got back from my GRE retake as well - had to go to another country to do that!!!! But I also managed to upgrade my score by 150 points. Now I have verbal 560 and math 750 --- I never wanna do this test again!!!! And I totally agree with you, peanut, for not native speakers the verbal part is an absurd vocabulary test. I also tried to memorize the whole dictionary (didn't have as much time as you did though...) but in the end it is still just like a lottery. Even though I did learn 1000 words, there are so many other words that I didn't learn. So I can just say that I guess I was lucky to recognize some of them during the test
  19. Hi Takshila! I think your profile looks good! you just need a smiling photo to go along
  20. Hi! I'm an internation student from europe Going for translational research - something inbetween biology and biomedicine GRE 560/750, don't have the essay score yet TOEFL 115 out of 120 GRE Biology - just did it on the 7th Nov (how come you have your score already, Armadillo? from last year?) GPA.. close to 4.0 I guess, It's difficult to say exacly as we have different systems out here All my paperwork, recommendations etc is almost done as I had to prepare it in spring for Fulbright scholarship. Been in the lab since 2004, 1 publication, hoping to get my first first-author paper published next year My worries... GRE verbal... it's just inhuman if you're not a native speaker. And of course the difference in background. It must be really different in US.. And, I'm not too familiar with the whole application process, never had to do anything like this before. I'm graduating from master's in a couple of moths, so there's enough pressure on me as well and i should buy some xmas decorations for my lab... because that's where i'll be spending the holidays.
