  1. Lol! Well, I'm glad I made somebody on a website laugh, rather than making that same mistake on something I submitted to a graduate school!
  2. Great! It's my cumulative undergrad. However, my major GPA is exponentially higher. I went through numerous science majors with quite a few C's within those classes before I finally chose an English major. Anyway, I was just a bit worried. Also, when sending your transcripts, do you wait until Fall semester of senior year is over or do they only look at junior year and below?
  3. So quick question for those who have applied before, will a 3.5 GPA get you cut during the weeding out process? Will they simply look at a 3.5 and put them in the rejection pile immediately without looking at other materials? They meaning, top tier/middle tier universities.

  5. For those of you who were accepted to Urbana-Champaign, do you perhaps have any advice on the application process for this particular graduate school? Were you guys granted acceptance with simply a B.A. or did you also have a Masters? I'm applying for the Ph.D. in Literature, but I will only have a B.A. after graduation next May. Are they typically in the routine of only accepting those with Masters for the Ph.D. program? Also, do you guys have any advice on the SoP and GRE scores? I'm just a little worried about the application process, as are many others. I've fallen in love with this university, and I just was looking any advice for making my application among the best for this university. If you feel more comfortable contacting through PM, I'm perfectly fine with that.
  6. I'm applying, too, for Fall 2015! I'm preparing a personal statement as we speak, taking the GRE over the summer, and I've already selected sixteen schools I want to apply to in hopes of a least one acceptance into a Brit Lit Ph.D. program. So you're definitely not going through this alone.
  7. I'm a senior in the fall, so I am definitely looking into programs now. In hopes of at least one acceptance into a Brit Lit Ph.D. program, I've already selected sixteen schools. I spoke to a few colleagues though, you know being entirely too excited/scared about grad school acceptances, and they informed me that they won't begin looking into grad school until around October. I just think that's a little too late to begin the entire process. The whole "better late than never" statement isn't really applicable when it comes to grad school acceptances, or so I'm told. Anyway, I really do wish you 2014 applicants the best of luck, as there still is time to get accepted, but I also do think it's "better early than never" to begin this thread.
  8. Thank you so much, everyone. These were really useful comments. This time next year, I'll keep everyone updated on how it actually turns out.
  9. I'm an undergraduate at a small public school in the South, and I'm obtaining a B.A. in English. I want to apply to doctoral British Literature programs, but I was told that typically STEM majors are the only ones who receive an opportunity to go straight to a Ph.D. program, while the rest of us must go through a Masters then Ph.D. I have not heard of many programs that fully fund British Literature students in a Masters program, though. I am a little worried that I will need to take out a hypothetical mortgage for a house in order to receive a Masters degree. Then I, of course, will still go on to receive a Ph.D. I know Ph.D. programs are often funded in comparison to Masters, which is the main reason I'd like to bypass the entire Masters process. Does anyone know if there are programs within the northeastern region that will accept a student straight into a Ph.D. program without a Masters degree?
