  9. Thanks for the advice. I just hadn't thought about the possibility of tornadoes until it was mentioned earlier in the thread, so it wasn't something I was mentally prepared for. I can handle living with the threat of hurricanes and earthquakes, so I think I can adjust to having to deal with the threat of tornadoes.

  11. It's definitely a good idea to reply and say thanks and to confirm that you're interested in the program and in finding out more about the program and research taking place there, even if this program is not your top choice. Hopefully you'd get the opportunity to talk with some of the profs there, if not in person, then on the phone, and the conversations can help you to make your choice on where to go even if you decide to go somewhere else.

  14. Nice. Thanks for that info. So getting a place with a basement or shelter would be a good idea then? Or is that not necessary since tornadoes aren't that frequent in Ann Arbor?
  15. I would think that you would probably have to re-apply, but that may not be the case at your specific school, so it would be best to ask your schools - maybe the Business Administration department.

  19. Congrats on your acceptance! What I would suggest that you do is that you contact the department at the Canadian school maybe a week before the deadline and ask if you could get an extension in the deadline for when you'd have to decide. You could let them know that you're very interested in attending their school, but you need a little more time in making your decision. All the best!
  20. Welcome dreemd! I think it would be better if you posted this question in the Engineering forum here: http://forum.thegrad...32-engineering/ since that's where you'll find fellow Engineering applicants and students. I'm in Computer Science so it's not exactly your field, but from my experience I think your research experience and interests are very important in adcomms' decisions and without knowing that it's hard to predict your chances. Fellow Engineering applicants would be able to give you a better idea.

  22. Well it sounds like you are under serious consideration for acceptance. I would prepare just like you prepared for the first interview and anticipate similar questions. It could be a conversation about fit - about what you would or could do at that department. It could also be a situation where you are among select finalists and so you'd want to be impressive during the interview. Good luck!
  23. I think everyone in academia goes through this at some point - I know I have. You find yourself surrounded by all these brilliant people and wonder what could they ever want with or see in me?

  25. Once for me. Started out in actuarial like you kotov, but ended up with a Math and Comp Sci degree.
