  5. It's a good idea I think to email the coordinator and/or your POI to let them know that you are still very interested in the program. If there was any new information that could help your application (such you had a paper be accepted) then it would be good to let them know that. Good luck!
  6. From the responses, I'd say that 1) is the best bet for an acceptance. The fact that the dean has written to the adcomm recommending your acceptance is very positive. I guess the only things that could keep you out is if they don't have funding for you or if there are better fits, but I'd imagine that the Dean's recommendation would carry a lot of weight. 2) sounds slightly better than a generic response. Yes the POI sees a fit for you, which is good, but it's also possible that they see a fit for 100 other applicants. 3) sounds promising and hopefully the POI will follow through in speaking with members of the adcomm. If so, then that would help, but it would depend on whether you'd be among the best fits of the applicants they have. So if I were to rank your responses, it would be 1 > 3 > 2, although it could be that 1 > 2 > 3 depending on how much of a fit the POI in 2) sees you as. Good luck!
  7. Doing that would be very bad form, since they probably wouldn't be able to find a replacement for you at that time. Perhaps you could ask if your acceptance could be deferred until next year, or maybe next semester?
  8. I guess it depends on the school. In general, schools would like to hear back from admitted people before April 15 so that they could make an offer to someone on a waitlist and give them time before April 15 to accept. If someone does go somewhere else before April 15, then I'd imagine that they would let you know before April 15. In the mean time, if I were you, I'd make myself as attractive to the adcomm as possible, so that if a spot does open up, the first person that would come to their minds would be me. Good luck!
  9. Congrats! Good luck to everyone.

  11. Congratulations! I think what you have suggested is a good way of replying to the acceptance email. Let them know that you are very interested in their program and that you have a few questions that you would appreciate your help with. They won't be expecting a decision just yet since they know that you'll likely be considering other schools. It's perfectly ok to ask about the other funding opportunities - perhaps you could direct this question to the department's graduate coordinator (let them know that you do appreciate the funding that they have already offered you). Alternatively, if you've been assigned a contact faculty, you could ask them. Good luck!

  13. It definitely helps to keep letting them know that you are still interested in their program, so to that end, visiting would help. Ultimately though, you need 2 people (or possibly only one if the other waitlisted person goes elsewhere) who got admitted to go somewhere else. Good luck!

  23. Wait for the letter. They'll still have enough time to find a replacement if you let them know next month. Congrats! I'm in a similar situation myself and I don't plan on giving notice until I've gotten my offer and signed and accepted it.
