Hey idria, did they mention an open house? I know they had one in November for prospective applicants, I'm wondering if they'll have one for admitted students.
Getting a PhD would allow me to ultimately become a professor. The only two careers I've ever been able to picture myself in is in teaching and in scientific research, so getting a PhD would allow me to do both. I've been out of undergraduate for a few years now, and always had in the back of my mind that I should go back to graduate school but was just waiting for the right timing, and hopefully that time is this fall.
This thread is definitely cathartic. I feel a lot better after reading some of these suggestions. I think I might get more acquainted with Messrs Daniels, Adams and Cuervo - I hear they're good company.
It really depends on how your department does acceptances. In my field, some adcomms meet and select who they are admitting and send out those admits and only those admits. Some programs have rolling admissions and keep sending out admits for a while. So without knowing which system your program is using it's hard to say if it's bad news or if you should still have hope. Perhaps you can search the results board for results from last year from your program to see if there are admits reported at different times. That might give you an idea, but they may not necessarily follow the same pattern as last year.
