  5. I'm not in your field, but generally you want to talk mainly about your research experience and your research interests. So you should discuss things like any research experience you had; what was it you did; how does your experience prepare you for grad school; what is it you're interested in researching in grad school; how you came about that interest and why you would be a good fit at the particular school you're applying to. Generally, you want to spend the majority of your SoP (even 60% or more) talking about what you want to do in the future, as opposed to what you did in the past. Here's a blog post I wrote when I was writing my SoP: It's geared towards my field (Computer Science) but its still broadly applicable. There's been a lot of really good advice given on this forum about writing SOPs and you can search the SOP forum for examples: http://forum.thegrad...tory-diversity/ You can also review examples of Political Science SOPs that have been posted here by successful applicants, such as and Best of luck!

  7. Good luck to you too. Here's hoping that this is the week we get good news. I would say to your questions: 1) No - have it forwarded to your phone 2) Yes - you still have a chance unless and until they tell you that you don't 3) Yes - I'm still dreaming about unis I got rejected from last year

  11. I wouldn't recommend doing that. If you get accepted to do a MS, you should finish the MS and then go to PhD. If you were to leave the MS after 1 year, it would raise a lot of questions in the minds of adcomms about your willingness to ultimately complete the PhD. Also, where would you get letters of recommendations from? The profs at your MS school might not be able to give you a strong LoR since you would be leaving their program without finishing it.
  12. Definitely retake the GRE and I think you'd have a decent shot at a school in the top 25-40 range. I'd even apply to a top 20 school or 2, just to take a shot at it if I were you. You're profile is definitely non-traditional, but profs and schools always say that the most important thing when they consider applications is research potential, so your application would be a pretty good test of that mantra.

  14. Typically you will have until April 15th to accept an offer with financial support. Sometimes schools will ask for an earlier decision, but if they're part of the Council of Graduate School's resolution, then you have until April 15. See the resolution here: http://www.cgsnet.org/portals/0/pdf/CGS_Resolution.pdf

    Decisions

It's still possible. Were the results posted just now? You could check the results from last year and see if people received admits after the initial results were posted, or if they were all received at the same time - that might give you an idea of what they're doing this year.

  23. I don't know if we can read more into it than what the prof said. It's obviously good news and it seems that you're in contention with a select few. All the best!
  24. Utah has a pretty good reputation in Computer Science. It's not a top 20 school, but is usually ranked around top-30ish. It's really good at computer graphics as was1984 says.
