Thanks for this info. When I applied last year I used FedEx and just used the regular addresses listed on the websites and didn't have any problems. I'll look out for any special addresses this year.

Low GRE Score (so sorry if this is a repeat topic!)
newms replied to kwalusiak10's topic in GRE/GMAT/etc
It sounds like if you redid the GRE with more preparation you should be ale to increase your score dramatically. The best way to increase your verbal score is to study vocabulary and to do practice questions. You could get a good GRE book with vocabulary words and just swat them. Also the GRE practice booklet from GRE is pretty good too as well - just practice and memorise words. As for your age, if you fulfill the program requirements I don't think that it should work against you - you obviously must be pretty intelligent to have completed, or almost completed, your undergraduate degree at 17. Some profs might have concerns about your maturity level, but you should be able to allay any concerns about your maturity level with your SOP and letters of recommendation. -
Ok. I was saying that most places, at least those I've encountered, do not require you to submit the application before the emails are sent out. A few do though.
-
Yes, that's how it works for most places. Some places, however, require you to submit the application before the emails to the recommenders are sent out. You have to be aware of these places because you will need to submit your application to these places well before the deadline to give your recommenders ample time to submit their recommendations.

Please Evaluate My Profile for Fall2011 (MS in CS)
newms replied to Manoj_Rocky's topic in GRE/GMAT/etc
I think you should have a good chance at ASU. Remember though, that there is no such thing as a guaranteed acceptance and many people have been surprised in the past and not got into their 'safe' schools. Also quite a few people have got into schools they didnt think they would have got into, so there is always uncertainty involved. To get a list of schools where you might be competitive, you could try this site that UTEP has: http://www.cs.utep.edu/admissions/ It will give you a list of schools it thinks you would be competitive at. It's far from perfect, but it will give you some schools to investigate. -

Yeah, you have asked a lot of questions and it is a lot better to ask one at a time. I'm in CS but not your area so I haven't done any research on those schools relating to your area, but I can tell you that UCLA and USC are not 'safe' schools in Computer Science. Those two are pretty highly ranked and you would have to have a great SOP and strong letters of recommendation to get in there. Again for the other schools you will need to have a good SOP and recommendation letters as they probably receive many applications with similar stats as yours. What would make your application stand out is if you have research experience and if you highlight that in your SOP. As for your second option, I really have no idea about acceptance rates at those schools and as DrFaustus said, you're going to have to do some research to find those answers. Perhaps you could even try emailing the departments at those schools. -

Ah, but you said it a lot better than I did! Basically natsteel, your scores won't keep you out, but will they get you in? Honestly, if I were in your situation and I knew I could get better scores (and as DrFaustus666 said, the verbal should probably concern you more) I would do the test over. I don't want to ask myself "what if?" next February/March when admissions decisions are sent out.

It really depends on your background. The Math sections is High School level maths, so if you were good at Maths in High school you should be fine - just take some time to go through the practice exam from ETS. If your back ground in Maths is fine I think you can take the exam towards the end of October and do quite well if you start practicing from now. The key to the GRE is really practice and the best practice resource is the practice test from GRE and the test booklet they send you - quite a few of the words I saw on the verbal part were in that booklet. All the best!
