  1. Thank you @jennbugg86. Are you applying/ Have you also applied there?
  2. And was does a rejection letter look like?
  3. Good points. I find that in the interest of meeting the rising demand for qualified SLPs, the move to off site placement is a very positive one indeed.
  4. Ok maybe the shortage of PhDs in the field has something to do with it, but it's not the primary reason. There are some programs with the same # of faculty who accept 3 times as many applicants as the other program. I believe the discrepancy is most related to clinical placement availability.
  5. The # of faculty has very little to do with it. The primary reason is clinical placement availability. Some programs are now outsourcing beyond the university clinic and placing students with private practices for both intern- and externships, enabling them to accept more students into their program. Universities that only place students in university clinics have limited space and can only accommodate very few students.
  6. What about WSU? Does anyone know if they have interviews? I remember reading once that they do, but now I can't find that information, so maybe they've changed?
  7. I wrote and complained to the director of the programs I applied to through CSDCAS. Surprisingly, many of them said their committees have similar grievances as I do and told me that CSDCAS has caused them many problems as well and therefore intend to vet everything that CSDCAD sends them. Hopefully your school is among them and will do the same.
  8. I'm confused as to how you think Lippi-Green's positions agree with you more than me. This whole discussion and dehumanizing me as rude and incapable of being a good clinician because of the way I construct (AND EDIT) my sentences is a prime example of linguistic authority and language-based oppression!
  9. And I'm not applying to be a stewardess, I'm not going to pamper my words.
  10. I think you missed my response to you above.
  11. Yes, research corroborates this, but does that make it right?
  12. I would also like to know more about funding, but unfortunately I think universities lack transparency on this issue. My question "Why would anyone know this?" is the teacher in me encouraging people to think for themselves.
  13. You've posted before reading my response to you above.
  14. It's not an excuse. Have you ever been around people of other cultures for extended periods of time?
  15. That makes sense. Again, my many "whys" were simply my own anxieties over someone's choice to apply to one school. I see this as being empathetic, not rude! I want everyone to get in, and I believe everyone should! I personally think it's a shame that there is such a need for qualified SLPs, an abundance of eager students, yet there are so many rejections each year. Neuronparty, I'm done with your ability to only read me one way which is the wrong way!
  16. I agree, but I don't perceive what I had to say as "rude!" Forward maybe, yes. I'm sorry I offended, but I think some people are overreacting a bit.
  17. I wouldn't want a clinician who can't decipher a good question from a dumb one either.
  18. Excuse me neuronparty, I am not passing judgement on anyone's character here as you have. I may sound too stern for you, but let me remind you that culture plays a big role in people's use of language. I come from a very stoic Nordic background. I am sorry that some may find what I have to say insensitive, but deal with it. I am only expressing my thoughts on applying to one school. I think it is unwise, and I have been advised as much myself. Thank you for your delightful conversation.
  19. I heard today that ISU had nearly 700 applications. That's insane! I wish there was a place somewhere for everybody!
  20. Does anyone know if WSU does interviews?
  21. This is very interesting, because they included all of my Linguistics courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level as Basic Communication Processes, all except Old English, which I'm guessing they wrongfully assume is a language class. How ridiculous!
  22. This is what I wrote to the schools I applied to through CSDCAS. I'm brave, or maybe you'd call it suicidal. Lol. "To whom it may concern: I am writing in regards to my application through CSDCAS. I would like to express my serious doubts as to the accuracy of their verification process. My BA was in Linguistics, and because of this, CSDCAS has included any course with the LIN prefix under the course subject "Basic Communication Processes (CSD courses)." This includes courses such as "American Indian Languages," "Field Methods," and "Historical Linguistics," courses which have little to nothing in common with CSD courses. Ironically, they included "Historical Linguistics" but did not include "Old English" in this category. This conveys ignorance as to the content of both courses and suggests that their assessment is somewhat arbitrary. All in all, my evaluation of CSDCAS is that they only complicate what they are meant to simplify. The application process through CSDCAS was not a very pleasant experience at all. Their GPA calculations are erroneous, and therefore, I think each institution should scrutinize their results and, if needed, conduct their own calculations. I hope you will take my experience into consideration for future application cycles."
  23. Which one? I see this as something positive. Less competitive maybe? The school I applied to via snail mail has become my #1 over time. They are actually very personable.
  24. The waiting is starting to kill me! lol
