  1. Hey all, Would it be appropriate to mention a current grad student in my SOP? A POI put me in touch with his current grad student. Turns out, said student's research interests mesh with mine and she just received a fellowship from a new foundation in our (very specialized) field. I have had my eyes on this fellowship for nearly a year now. Basically, these are the things that I want to be doing in grad school. In my SOP I would mention it in the context of my being excited with the direction the program is sending their students in. Thoughts?
  2. Okay, I think it is best that I include the research abroad in my SOP since it was not an assistantship. Thanks for the input!
  3. I am tuning up my CV to submit with my applications. As a humanities student, should I include any relevant research experience? I received a travel grant to conduct research and have researched abroad in addition to that. This experience is worth noting in my opinion, but my adviser feels I should only mention it in my SoP. Thoughts?
  4. My main focus has been on the Verbal section. I bought Baron's GRE High Frequency Vocabulary Flashcards and have been working through about 10-15 a day. What works best for me is to connect each new word to something I am familiar with and use it in a variety of sentences. I record myself saying each day's set of words, definitions, and example sentences so that I can review in the car. Also, I highly recommend those flashcards if you have $20 to spare.
  5. Hi, UC Davis offers a terminal MA; Strazdes is their 19th c. American art and material culture professor. UC Riverside also offers a terminal MA, so I would check who is on faculty there.
  6. *Slowly, not slowing.* Hello, all. I am going to be applying to graduate schools for Fall 2015. After extensive school research and a fair amount of lurking on here, there are a few questions/concerns I still have. I just finished my junior year at University of Nebraska. My GPA is only 3.54 as of now, but my Art History GPA is around 3.8 somewhere. I am a research grant recipient, have an article being published, interned and now work for an internationally known artist and am studying abroad this summer. Reading knowledge of French, working on my Italian. The schools my POI's are on faculty at are very prestigious and only have PhD programs. Should I cast my net a little wider? Also, how important is it that you and your POI's be a specific match? As I am still an undergrad, would it be a good idea to apply for MA as was as PhD programs? The quality level of Art History graduate applicants is so high, I do not want to be impractical and get rejected everywhere.
