Mustered up the courage to email Tyler this morning to ask what's going on, and finally got some official word that I'm on the waitlist. apparently they will "have decisions made by the beginning of next week at latest."  ?

At this point, I don't think Tyler's  even knows what they're doing! After an email exchange with the Chair of the painting dept a few weeks back. I just determined that Tyler was not going to be a good fit. He admitted they're having funding issues with recruiting the incoming class. Too much miss information dates being thrown around that have long since passed. Folks finding out their applications were never reviewed by the review committee. The last min class size to 5 might of work for other folks, but I didn't find the exclusiveness of just 4 other painters to be attractive.

Whatever I'm gucci, I'm still young and beautiful I have time to find another amazing MFA program but not enough patiences Tyler!

  2. With all this MFA admission anxiety, I've been spending my time binge watching youtube artist panel/artist talk, and I thought I should share this panel discussion with you all. They talk a lot about the young artist, art school/students, and the general politics of painting, among other things you will find relevant.  The moderate was so shady throughout the panel talk so it made it very entertaining to watch. If anything, please watch the Q&A at the end it!!! :D

  3. No clue what's going on with Tyler seems like they switch up their admission notification process from previous years. Maybe the painting and sculpture folks should here tomorrow or at the very least sometime next week. I can't image them dragging this any further into the month of March, they better not!  Frankly, I thought I would've heard by now, according to the Dept. Chair email early last month, notifications of some kind were supposed to go out the 2nd and 3rd week of Feb, obviously that never happened.  What I know for sure is that both Round 1 & 2 of fellowship nomination deadlines have passed on Feb 3rd & 20th, knowing this it's almost certain they'be made some admission decisions, just no formal notification have been sent out for some reason.

My life and my studio practice have been on hold pending MFA decisions. Rejection or acceptance, I'll just be happy to know something and get my life back and kickstart a new body of work with a clear mind.

  4. Okay, maybe I'm being a tad bit delusional but when I logged into my TUPortal for Tyler. I noticed there was a "Masters of Fine Art" added under  "Current Program". Any Tyler applicants have this, Master Fine Art under Current Program? I'm just assuming that I didn't notice it before but wanted to make sure. Sorry if I freaked anyone out in advance, it could be that everyone has it... :(

  5. For art education at the college level, it might be different, which would be more of DeVos jurisdiction. For those of you who don't know, her family awhile ago heavily funded the ArtPrize award so she is very art friendly, like 1.7 million more than Trump.  In 2010, she and her husband also gave $22.5 million to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, where she had served on the board for the previous six years. Not sure if these a good or bad thing for art education, she does "appear" to be an art lover.

  6.  @Upstream Dreams are always a little over the top and probably why a lot of artists end up making work about their dreams.  Got to www.dreammoods.com it's like my favorite site currently! They tell you what stuff in your dream means, very interesting stuff!

@D-RoseD Trying doing a search for the schools you applied for in the Visual arts forums and or you can search the school in the result tab.  From there you should be able to come up with a timeline when you'll be hearing back from schools along with other details you might find interesting.

  7. Didn't end up applying to UCLA for the same reasons you guys are describing, plus I love my four seasons too much!  I think one person posted they got in last year, they didn't both saying which program it was. UCLA Fee waivers are only offered to current seniors and you have to get a letter from your school financial aid office to be approved for one. UCLA has very nice funding you wouldn't need something like a diversity scholarship when the art department is already fully funding and includes a stipend.

I got my official admit letter from the school of art for UCLA, full tuition, non resident compensation and a 18k stipend for the first year. Unreal. Totally freaking unreal. Unsure what the deal is with the second year....

Just received a formal letter of admission to UCLA's Painting and Drawing program. Yip! After patiently waiting for months I know where I'm going. $15k (TA+scholarship from what I can tell by the letter?) not much but I'm willing to take the loans if I can establish residency in a year. It'll be worth it I think.

ACT: I found out my status (rejection) from my slideroom account about a month back, they had put RJ on my application page, through the forum I figured it means a rejection.

Best of luck to everyone this month!

Last year Columbia MFA Chair was nice enough to response back to my email to informing me that they do not offer fee waivers.

  8. My application was not done two weeks ago nor was I even sure that I should invest money in applying.

Sure Tacos and art supplies is a a valid option instead of Yale, but one could always just submit a couple weeks before the deadline to avoid their notoriously crappy application system, since based on prior experiences, is not an excuse for a late application.

  9. Wow, thanks for that great insight!  Well I'm a POC also, so diversity and inclusion are two very important things to me.  "Mostly white" I guess  is the best you're going to get for art schools these days, particularly at the graduate level. But there visiting art list was well represented, seen few big name black artist came through.

Glad to hear that represented work thing was to be disregarded. Maybe they should think about removing that on the website? Did they care to share what style Yale preferred?

I'll be submitting my app to Yale by the end of next week, just not looking forward to coughing up that dreadful $100 app fee.  I really was worrying the most about the in-personal interview, it seem almost required and that your work must also come with you. This will be a big challenge as the majority of my work is large.
