  1. That early? They don't even require all of the supporting materials until Dec. 15.
  2. I made the deadline on one of my applications by 2 minutes. But it is probably all for not as one of my letter writers has still not submitted their letter. To respond to an earlier query, I have reduced the number of schools I'm applying to for two reasons. First, would not have been that great of a fit at a few places I was planning on applying to. And why go to a place you don't fit very well at? Second, I'm not applying to any philosophy programs this year around.
  3. Anyone else confused with Minnesota's application process? Specifically, the three statements they have you fill out on the application and the three extremely similar statements that you fill out and upload with the TA application.
  4. One nice thing about the perceived early deadlines is that you can see if a busy letter writer will actually write the letters.
  5. It probably depends on the program. Some programs that don't list the writing sample as mandatory do consider it mandatory...they just haven't updated their websites. But I don't think that is true of any of the schools in your signature.
  6. They told me that they are giving people until Nov. 30 to get the rest of their supplemental materials in. That saved my application since I have considerably higher GRE scores now and one of my letter writers has been unresponsive since mid-October. Thankfully, I got another letter writer who has been incredibly flexible and kind.
  7. Yep. Still got 7 left to finish for Dec. 1. I'm planning on a few all nighters. Anyone got to NCA? If so, did anyone have good conversations with adcomms?
  8. Quick question. I recently took the GRE again and scored significantly higher in the quantitative and verbal sections, but don't yet know my analytic score. Since I'm applying to a number of places on Dec. 1 I need to send my scores out right away. Would you recommend that I send both my newer score, with the higher quant and verbal scores, and the one with high analytic or just my newer score?
  9. I'm reading Unbroken for entertainment and it is truly amazing. I highly recommend it as a fun read. In philosophy I'm reading, and re-reading, the necessary books for my thesis. It seems like I'm getting into more Metaphysics then I had anticipated.
  10. It really does. I kept telling myself that I was just going to be putting icing on the cake.
  11. Quite honestly its difficult to know how to respond. It seems from field to field things can change drastically. I'm applying to two different fields--communication and philosophy. In philosophy some schools will blacklist you if you try to contact a POI about wanting to work with them. In communication contacting the POI generally is a good idea. Even within different areas of Comm it seems that professors have different views of the process. I've had several hour long conversations with grad coordinators at schools who said they would like to work with me and I've had grad directors call me up out of the blue. There have also been a couple of semi-negative responses, So know what is expected for your discipline and keep your head up because you don't know what will happen.
  12. Honestly, I didn't. I knew that my previous scores were lower then what I was capable of and hoped that my newer ones would better represent my abilities.
  13. I was just wondering. I'm applying there as well with interests in rhetoric of science.
  14. I retook the GRE and scored 13 points higher than my already "decent" score. So I'm definitely of the opinion that retaking is a good idea.
  15. I took the GRE yesterday and improved my "decent" score by 13 points! Couldn't be more elated. Just hope my essay score doesn't drop. But I'll very thankfully take it. Only sad part is that I get this score after already sending my app to USC.
  16. Have you talked with anyone at Ptt? Are you interested in rhetoric of science?
  17. Does anyone know if there are any rankings of MA program like the ones found at NCA?
  18. I figured that the text boxes were for the grad school and not for Annenberg.
  19. Did anyone not apply to USC because of the earlier deadline? I'm just wondering.
  20. Because of my interests in philosophy I've looked at a number of places including HKU and found it very difficult to find places that offer funding for international applicants. Are you aware of other international programs that fund students especially in Europe?
  21. I'm not sure. But the USC app specifically asks for the highest scores you have in each area.
  22. Those are lower than the ones that I've seen from previous years. It makes me wonder if the cutoff is lower than I had expected.
