Holy crap I actually got it... I had pretty much given up hope after getting rejected from the first round of NDSEG. I don't even know how to process this. Edit: Wow, one reviewer gave me a fair but I still won somehow. Overall scores were VG/F, E/E, E/VG

Yes, absolutely! I have heard of people initially being rejected, but then admitted after winning the GRFP (one got into Harvard for bio this way).

Wait, so was this an email that they sent to everyone in January? I don't think I ever got anything like that from them, and I would be shocked if I was not in the top 40% of applicants. Maybe they never even got my application or something....

I didn't get an email, does that mean I did not make it to the next round? Edit: I just emailed them asking and will update this post if I hear back from them.

I am not exactly sure since my first term grades were out so I submitted them. Since yours had not yet been released, you were not expected to submit them. However, I think they did want a list of courses you were enrolled in. You should definitely email them though, as this could potentially be important (and fixable if you contact them).

No, is this something they typically send out around this stage in the process?

I would advise against doing that. Either it takes up more space and you miss out on being able to say some things, or it takes up less space and you are violating the rules. I think it's unlikely that they would actually return your application without review because of this, but it's still not worth the risk in my mind.

Wow, sounds like today's the day then! Good luck everyone! Really hope they do get back to us today; I'm not sure I would be able to survive the weekend if they don't! However, at this point I'm not super optimistic since we are being notified after the deadline of the people from the first wave of acceptances, and I can't imagine anyone would turn down such a great fellowship.

That would make sense if they did it by field. Anyone from engineering heard back yet? Also, it seems like a low percentage of people have been reporting rejections this year. If they release results by field, then maybe that means they are giving out a lot of awards this year and our chances are higher than usual?

I got two spam phone calls today and nearly had a heart attack when each one came in. Looks like someone reported a rejection so hopefully not receiving one of those today is a good sign...
