  1. Keeping the foreign contingent up, I'll, in all likelihood, be at Leiden University in the Netherlands in September.
  2. Congrats to so many! I've had acceptances it seems from UI-Chicago, and Leiden, both of which are apparently coming through post but are not going to arrive for a while due to the Iceland volcano!
  3. Just phoned Illinois-Chicago (UIC), they said they'd hopefully have decisions as soon as two weeks, but it may be longer. Didn't sound terribly optimistic about funding.
  4. Hooray! acceptance for MA from Durham University, so now that's pretty much my academic season over, my choices ranked: =1) Bristol University =1) Durham University 3) UCL 4) King's College London I would have UCL as top if there weren't monetary considerations (in terms of living costs), but both Bristol and Durham look amazing, so I'm happy enough. Technically I still have Leipzig and UIC to go, but I'm not planning on accepting UIC even if an offer comes, and only choosing Leipzig if it's funded.
  5. I claim the UIUC rejection, so will definitely be staying here for a MA/MSc - see you guys next year for "Revenge of the Sanssouci" (And I'll definitely be sticking around here for a while, I love you guys )
  6. I like Durham; then again I come from Sunderland so Durham is like Bruges to me If I get the offer from Durham, I'm pretty much split between there Bristol and UCL..
  7. Glad you enjoyed it! I have a friend down there so I've visited a few times, it is a lovely place! Jutta Weldes was one of the people I mentioned in my PS - Terrell Carver was the other one. I'm waiting for a reply from Durham (and hold offer from UCL and Kings) but I'm very tempted by Bristol.
  8. Not that you're all on tenterhooks on this, but I'll claim the IR MA at Bristol University
  9. Just got my second acceptance this morning from UCL - European Studies. Very happy, though pressure is now on as they want a response in a month.
  10. I can't tell, it just says "we do not have a callers number", which it only ever says if it's International (and I'm an international student applying to the US), and since I'm not expecting calls from International numbers, it was either a University or a call centre..just when I was getting used to the idea I was rejected! Just want closure now.
  11. Thanks, logically I'm thinking this is the case for most Universities, but there's nothing like an untraceable international call to set your imagination wild.
  12. I just missed an international call, I can't trace it further than that, I thought it was my dad, until I rang him back and he said it wasn't him.. so now I'm super paranoid and can't really ring them to ask since I rang them yesterday and if it wasn't then I look like a complete stalker! Consoling myself with a belief that they're not going to reject me because I didn't answer the phone....right? Also..t was probably a call centre in India or somewhere
  13. I just got off the phone with the DGS at Illinois hoping they'd put me out of my misery, but instead just said the committee was "still in the process" and it would be a few more weeks before it's complete. So, here's to some more weeks of neuroticism for me (though, I've already started planning my fulbright scholarship for 2011-2012)
  14. As a European myself, one of the reasons I'm applying to places in America is because an American Ph.D can open doors in both Europe and America, whereas a European Ph.D, unless it's from Oxbridge or a mainland equivalent, only really opens in the doors in Europe unless you're really good. One possibility for you could be to take a Ph.D in America and take a study abroad opportunity at a European partner? or even, try to apply for a Fulbright scholarship and get an MA, and then you could apply to a Ph.D in America with "Fulbright scholarship" on your CV.. anyway, unless you're absolutely sure you want to go to Europe, I'd suggest getting your Ph.D in America.
  15. I had a funny dream last night, my application status from UI-Chicago read "Decisions letter sent in post", then I scrolled down and under a category "ongoing issues" it read "WOEFUL decision to submit DIRE writing sample"
  16. I'm very grateful for the Grad Cafe too, certainly made the waiting process easier, and though I think a rejection is forthcoming, I'm already feeling positive about the MA/MScs in my home country that I've applied to and about applying to the US again next year, slightly more wise about the process!
  17. Gradcafe forums aren't working for me, keep getting "driver error".

  18. Sincere congrats! I haven't recieved any such e-mail so not looking fantastic for me, but never mind that
  19. Is anyone claiming the Illinois one? Got me dead nervous now, ready to answer the phone, but logically it would be cruel for them to do that since it's 2AM!
  20. Congrats! Looks like you need to update your signature
  21. Just finished Hemingway's A Moveable Feast, I have some books that I'm now reading depending on what sort of mood I'm in: M Nussbaum - The Clash Within M Nussbaum - Disgust to Humanity Nick Cave - The Death of Bunny Munro
  22. I've got an image of adcom members that are all clones of Kingsfield from The Paper Chase
  23. Congrats to the UC-Boulder and Brown people getting acceptances!
