The past few months, weeks, and days have been a roller coaster ride but...dare I say it?...I will be attending Toronto this fall!
And, though I won't be moving to the UK for my PhD studies, yesterday I learned that my summer is going to be spent doing some pretty awesome academic work in England! I am ecstatic! It will be a wonderful way to relax, grow, and prep for PhD life.
Phew! Thank you so much to everyone who has been on this roller coaster ride with me. Couldn't have come through it all in one piece without your insight and support. And so many congrats! Cannot wait to see all the awesome things we do in this next chapter of our academic lives!

Not sure if it's all right for me to name the school, but when I had asked about my wait list chances, a committee member said he should be able to tell me by April 6 since that was the deadline they had given out to acceptees (as you mentioned). Having just spoken to him again today, he said I would be given time to deliberate and that the deadline for my decision is TBD. So considering they don't even have a date set for my decision deadline, I think it's more than likely that you could get that extra time if you asked. Go for it!
Thanks! I actually sent the request about 10 minutes ago. And many congratulations again!

As for me, got an email this morning... In off wait list at Toronto...!
Congrats! Perhaps we will see each other this fall.

Hi everyone! I am in a bit of a pickle and would appreciate some insight.
The deadline to respond to School A was April 1st but I asked for an extension. They extended my deadline until April 6th, but told me to let them know if that wasn't enough time. Since it is Easter weekend, the two remaining places I am waiting to hear from have just informed me that they will release their results after Easter and no later than the morning of April 8th. These two places are my first choices but School A is definitely a strong second choice. I really want to hear back from the other two places before making my final decision, but am ever aware that there are people on School A's wait list who are anxious for a decision and who have been promised one on April 6th. Would it be unacceptable to tell School A about my situation and ask if I can have an extension to respond to their offer by no later than the afternoon of April 8th?
Thanks! Happy long weekend!

Placement in US schools is beginning to be a big factor in convincing students to attend, so programs are starting to keep better records. It may not be such a big issue in the UK.
You could always try contacting the professor you want to work with, and asking him/her where his/her former students are now.
Thank you so much for your suggestion. I am going to do that.

When I asked one of my potential schools in the UK about placement records, they told me they don't have access to that information. Should I be worried about that response?

The visit was great in many ways - the staff was incredibly welcoming and friendly, everything was well-organized, and overall I had a lot of fun and met some great people. However, despite all of that, I also feel that the program is not the best fit for me. That being said, it sounds like an absolutely stimulating, fantastic program and place to study. It is all still too fresh for me to fully articulate and, as I said, I need some time and distance before I can really say how I feel - but, without being able to fully articulate at this point, I couldn't help but feel by the end of the day that, despite how impressive the program is, it is not the best one for me.
Sorry, I realize I am rambling - my head is kind of full now. Hopefully what I typed sort of makes sense.

Had my campus visit today and I am feeling a little bit heartbroken. The program is fantastic, with reputable scholars and hard-working, driven, accomplished students. I really was ready to embrace it, and on paper it seems such a good fit - but (keeping in mind, of course, that it is hard to get the feel of a school in just one day), after my visit, I am not sure it is really that good of a fit anymore. Need some time away from thinking about it though - will give myself some distance, then come back and see how I feel in a few days.

Off to my campus visit! Nervous, anxious, excited, looking forward to a few days out of town, and hoping that this helps answer some questions for me in my decision-making process.

I am currently starting season 6 of X-files. It is actually my first time watching the series. I am kind of embarrassed to admit that since it's been out for quite awhile and now I am constantly trying to avoid hearing anything about it for fear of spoilers...but better late than never!

Yes, the decision-making process is proving to be very frustrating for me, as well - the deadline for my fully-funded offer is quickly approaching while my scholarship nomination outcomes for my other schools won't be finalized until well after that deadline has passed. I wish I could make a decision with full understanding of everything I've been offered, but looks like such will not be the case. Alas, the problems with applying to schools in multiple countries on very different systems!
Ah well, I too have a campus visit coming up and I am hoping that it helps to make my decision easier.
Many congrats to all of you who have made the big decision! And best of luck to those of you who are still figuring things out. You are not alone!

Many thanks for the congratulations! I hope you enjoy the visit, & please, if possible, do send along a PM, because I'd love to hear your thoughts on the program, etc.
Sending you the best!
I can definitely send you a PM after my visit (which will be next week).

Just got my first outright acceptance at University of Washington-Seattle! My offer of admission popped up on the website after my obsessive hourly checking, and I couldn't be more excited (especially since I've been aching to get my hands on their collection of H. Rider Haggard ephemera). Still waiting on funding details and an official e-mail, as well as my wait list options from Madison and OSU. Congrats to anyone else accepted!
Congrats! UW is a fantastic school, and Seattle is an absolutely wonderful city! I have a close family member who actually works at UW (not in an academic position), and she has loved her time working there and has very positive things to say.
Congratulations to all recent admits!
Has anyone else accepted an offer to U of T?
Very strongly considering it, but I am holding off on my final decision for a little while longer, until after visiting the campus and the department. Congrats on your decision!

I have been placed on wait list at U Toronto!

Congrats to all new admits and waitlists!
Was about to go to work and checked my email quickly on the way out to find that I got into U of Toronto's PhD English program with a huge scholarship!

This is fantastic news! Congrats!

Congrats everyone! So very, very happy for you and could not think of a more deserving, generous group of people!
