Oh goodness, yay! Congrats Hannalore and allplaideverything!
-
I am ecstatic to hear all of the good news! Congrats Cornell admits!
-
Also...the Canucks play Boston tonight. Just throwing that out there.
OOOOH GOODNESS, I KNOW!!! I teach in the evenings so I won't be able to watch it live, but I have it set to record. Should be exciting!

Congrats WT! This is definitely good and celebration-worthy news, especially if some funding comes with it! But, of course, you have MANY schools to hear from so there is still lots of hope for that PhD acceptance too. We have likely never met in person (though we are both from BC and I am also a Canucks fan), but I feel confident in saying you are awesome in so many ways - an awesome friend, an awesome scholar, and an awesome person! It's been great going through this journey with you on GradCafe.

Congrats to all of the Brown admit! And congrats to the CUNY waitlists! Such exciting news!

Thanks for the well-wishes and so many congrats to the UCR acceptances! Can't wait to see what other wonderful news rolls in for everyone throughout the week!

Hi there! I am thinking of applying too, so I'm also interested in what others might have to say.
-
It is wonderful to see all of the good news bursting from this board! So many congrats to all the people who have received admittance!

I have another friend who discovered that her application was actually never even read at her dream program--despite the fact that she far surpassed all minimum standards regarding grades and test scores.
Oh no! Back in October, I submitted an application to a school that has ongoing acceptance. Hadn't heard a word from the program - not a word - so I got in touch with them this week. It turns out they lost my application without ever having looked at it. So frustrating!
P.S. Congrats to all the new admits! And hugs and positive energy for those who haven't received admits yet - you are all so wonderful, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the next few days will bring you tons of fantastic news.

Ack this is all such great, exciting news! Congrats and celebrations!

Oh dear, this is me too. I told them when they were hiring me that it was my dream to one day pursue a PhD, but I didn't tell them that "one day" most likely meant September. I am interested in what others have to say about this situation.

So I'm curious: is anyone else having a hard time talking to friends and family about this process?
Unfortunately, most of my close family has been incredibly unsupportive about my decision to pursue academics - I have been the recipient of some very nasty comments regarding the subject. These close fam members also didn't say a word of congrats to me when I completed my MA. Needless to say, I have stopped discussing the process with them. Thank goodness my significant other is a rock of support!

Thank you! Yes, along with the fact that Kent was a basically perfect fit, one of the big draws of the school for me was how lovely Canterbury is.

I have just been accepted to my top choice, University of Kent in Canterbury, UK. So incredibly excited!
Best of luck and many congratulations in advance! I am sure this space will be bursting with lots of wonderful news soon!

Hi crimsoc! Haven't heard from mine yet, and was just wondering the same thing.

Same here. I am in the final semester of my MA program right now and, to allow more time to concentrate on final paper writing, I got my PhD apps out of the way early. Only problem is, I can't concentrate on paper writing anyway because I am impatient when it comes to the waiting game.

I have applied to the English PhD program for September 2015. Still waiting on one reference letter before they look at my application, but fingers crossed. Edinburgh is a lovely place!

Thanks for sharing this insight, Krystal! Yes, I have heard from a few people about the rapid speed and will admit I am kind of exhilarated by that prospect myself. If any further questions come up, I will be sure to ask. Tomorrow I will be meeting with someone from back home who has taught for the past two years at British universities, so I am super excited to hear his insight as well. Best of luck with the PhD application process, and thanks again.

Hi there!
I am actually originally American, so I definitely did think about applying to places in the States but decided not to. It is a location preference.
I am applying for a SSHRC PhD scholarship, and am in the process of looking at other potential scholarships to apply for. The Rhodes is one I will be sure to look at.

Hi everyone!
I have been working pretty extensively on my research proposal for my PhD applications, and am now struggling with writing out the section on my preliminary timetable. I am struggling with what a preliminary timetable should look like for a UK program (which is approx. 3-4 years in length, and research-based). Yes I understand that it is only preliminary, but I've really no idea how many months I should anticipate looking in the archives, for instance, or how many months is reasonable to be working on the first draft of, say, chapter 1. Any insight would be very much appreciated. Let me know if you need any more information about my area of study, etc.
Thanks!

I am currently doing research assistant work in DH in Canada. To voice others here, Canada has many strong DH departments, including but certainly not limited to: UVic, SFU (including its Print Culture program within the English graduate program), U of T (including its Book History & Print Culture program), Ottawa
Alan Liu at UCSB is amazing as well! He was a guest speaker at our school, and he really inspired a lot of our cohort to learn more about DH.
