  1. Boston University has so many interesting degrees with a large variety O:!
  2. Is it just me or do a lot of schools have bad administration? The school I am going to now I think it pretty damn good about keeping things straight and keeping students informed...
  3. Oh to anyone that is interested in PAFA: I declined admission so I know they now have a scholarship/ grant for at least half the cost of the tuition. So if they act like they don't have any other funding don't believe them ;p. I don't know if they revise financial aid packages depending on who declines?
  4. The website is so confusing it's hard for me to find the student work, but I remember being very impressed by some of the painting work.
  5. Oh that sounds a lot better than being a part of a larger group. lol. I guess I was wrong.I admit I don't know everything at all. I just went off the numbers that other people have said they have had on the wating list on this forum. The 'alternate' and 'you'll have to be reviewed again' made me think that the chances weren't really set in stone.. Though the chances being variable may actually be a good thing depending.
  6. I honestly am not that interested in MICA anymore..Not that it wouldn't be great to go there, but yeah you know.. I will probably just tell them I dont really plan on trying for the alternate position. I don't need to bother their time just to you know massage my ego by going 'hey I can get in ! ' even if I want to go elsewhere. I wish all the alternates the best of luck in hopefully recieving that dream acceptance !!! *fingers crossed*
  7. no I am just saying from other people on here, most programs have waitlists and don't call it alternate like MICA so I think it's different... Also, most people seem to be assigned a number on the waitlist at other schools, hence they say "#2 on waitlist" I am not sure if every waitlist has numbers assigned though, maybe they don't all. It seems like alternate could be a good thing in that they will reconsider you again, but waitlist feels like a much more sure thing (especially if you're like #1).
  8. Only waiting on RISD!!! RISD please! lol waiting for painting..been checking email every day....
  9. I know this is an older post but yeah I think that Joan lady is the one that is primarily in charge of the painting department so if she doesn't like your work or think it is ready over other applicants , it's pretty much no dice . I know it seems weird to me,but the impression that i got is that she is the big cahuna and the end all be all in that program. I don't think I like that in retrospect. Even if she seems very knowlegeable it makes me wary if there isn't more than one person in a department with the power to make decisions. Maybe I am wrong though?
  10. Maybe they meant not art directed? I don't know my school isn't known for its art department either but it's leagues above what is usually around here which is why all these people from community colleges end up at my school. Here in Texas I am pretty sure the "University of Texas' system is the best option. i go to UT Tyler..so maybe it's not as small of a program? We've had a portion of students go to big name schools but I don't think many people know about our program , especially in comparsion to UT Austin. We have a pretty good art program (if you work hard) .It is easy for some students to skate by , but I think that comes from not having as many options for enrollment (since it is smaller). If you take in a higher degree of applicants you can really weed people out. Maybe it's just the nature of that small BFA program that has them wary. I am not sure- because certainly from some bfa graduates having a bfa is not impressive...(I don't want to sound like a jerk but it is what it is)
  11. I think alternate isn't as good as waitlist but it's apparently how MICA operates. ...I thought waitlist they had an already decided order, but with alternate there is still a process to go through. Meaning just because you are said to be an alternate that isn't a gurantee you will get in...whereas with waitlist they have you in a certain order. Am I correct everyone?
  12. RISD PAINTING JUST TELL MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE *throws arms in the air*
  13. I'm pretty sure I am NOT going to PAFA. I could change my mind possibly .mainly if someone magically offered to let me live with them for free. Any offers? LOL also apparently I am an alternate for MICA. wooh alternate. (I don't think that's the same thing as waitlisted, since admittance isn't guranteed).
  14. Yeah I have to admit I am barely familiar with his work, especially his music videos. I watched one review on one of his music video and the person was giving it praise and it did appear very artistic to me .So I didn't want to completely rule him out either, but I wasn't sure if he deserved a doctorate or not. I think a lot of people don't think of him in the same vein as a fine artist. I have always thought he was very talented though, and is probably leagues above a portion of the other 'mainstream' singers in his genre. Regardless of his attitude (oh another very talented person who is artistic who thinks that they can tell what is good and what is not- imagine that ; that's sooo shocking lol)
  15. Like........did any of the interviewers that talked about your work just seem to dismiss what you thought was the strongest? I still can't quite get over it but I'm trying to understand her preference and I think I have dealt with the jolt to my brain . It's weird because even my professor and other students didn't really understand, while my other professor( I do the gouaches in his class) did seem to understand her opinion, though didn't necessarily think that one medium was stronger than the other. They are just different in mood/ effect. Still I am still trying to deal with it! like...maybe I"ve been wrong! Or maybe the admissions process is much more based on taste/ opinion that I originally even conceived it to be... Because...lol...that was really the last thing I was expecting XD.
  16. Kind of yes...Well I got accepted by PNCA and for some reason in my head I expected more funding. I kind of expected to get into Rutgers University but oh well. I wasn't expecting to get into MICA (didn't even really expect an interview ) and was not very sure about VCU (but wasn't terribly worried about it). Those rejections were not shocking. I can't say I am that shocked, but the most bizzarre thing to me was that the interviewer for MICA prefered my goauches over my oils. That threw my brain for a loop (LOL). I just assumed my oil paintings were much more impressive, and she even liked the gouaches that I thought were probably the weakest. Very very strange. We have such opposing opinions/ tastes on where my work should be that it seems that it might have been best I wasn't accepted. I didn't expect to get an interview with RISD either...Still waiting on them. to accept or reject me after that I also didn't expect after all those rejections (i was feeling pretty down by then ) to get into Boston with as good of a scholarship as I did. I had to stare at the acceptance letter a few times. It's sort of how I felt going in. My portfolio feels impressive, but I lack confidence and knowlege ...and my portfolio could use another year of work before it's really 'matured' into itself.
  17. RISD needs to hurry up and tell me no!!! lol
  18. He's an artist? I don't know...his music videos do get pretty artsy in some cases so maybe as a performance artist? I don't thnk he's really deserved a doctorate though.......
  19. i emailed VCU and they told me I didn't get in..so maybe emailing them will work.
  20. I haven't been notified by the painting program yet....... I think it may just be sculpture? But I doubt I am a top candidate so I don't know. It's supposed to be this week at least....(hopefully)
  21. Yeah people are saying they have been accepted into MICA's hoffberger program so I am assuming it's a rejection ,especially since I am about 97 percent sure I was rejected... Maybe they contact the acceptances first? If so, I'm sorry about that... It's hard to tell if they just accept some people right away then are stil deliberating on others or if they contact the acceptances well ahead of time.
  22. This gives me hope LOL that I may have a chance with RISD hahaha.
  23. LOL My RISD interview felt the same way. The interviewers weren't even particularly difficult in my opinion and they were pretty nice overall, but I felt like I crashed and burned hahaha. ahg interviews!!!
  24. I know a girl who goes to Alfred for sculpture. She loves it ! And I heard one guy at my school call it the "Mecca of art schools' LOL. I guess he liked the way it looked that much . hahaha. I also have thought about the whole 'another round and waiting another year ' but yeah I don't feel like it's in my best interest...But I still can't help but wonder........wonder wonder...lol.
  25. What kind of masters? I'm a painting person so....lol.
