  1. Acceptance within 24 hours is quite remarkable. I agree with cloudsky16. I think this is really good. I didn't get such email but I am really excited there's some movement. Let's hope next week is the week.
  2. Miracle18, Fellow UK finalist here. Well that could only be good sign. Otherwise why would the university contact you if they haven't heard from the fulbright commission? I haven't applied to my school yet because I wanna hear from the commission first. There's a chance we might hear next week. Welcome to the forum and good luck to you!
  3. So gradcafe community, I need your wonderful insights regarding a job offer vis-à-vis the Fulbright. Two weeks ago I was offered a wonderful job. A kind of dream job really. This job will allow me to bring my girlfriend along and also tour a country that has always held my imagination. It will be an understatement to say it's tempting. They gave me 3 weeks to get back to them. If I were to get the Fulbright (a big if since I am applying to the UK), I will be in a bind since I am really tempted by this offer. Not only does it have great perks ( a huge draw for a pauper like me) but it will also look great on my resume since it's in the field I will end up in eventually after grad school. Fulbright is a lifetime opportunity and probably one of the most prestigious fellowships out there so there is that also. What do you good folks think?
  4. What a day this turned out to be! Oh blimey! Austria, Indonesia, Ireland and Norway! Let's hope for a bonanza next week.
  5. Congratulations to our friends accepted. Let's hope for more acceptances!
  6. Medievalist, Could you please,if you may, elaborate more on the relationship between admission and selection? I was under the impression that admission to a program conferred no advantage.
  7. Well that's indeed frustrating. I hope it doesn't get to you and it doesn't push back notifications. Good luck on the interview!
  8. I think Ireland applicants will be notified either Monday or late next week at the latest. For the UK, I predict the 16th is the day we hear. This is pure speculation of course. However, given they will continue interviewing into next week, I think it will take more than a week to put everything together. Anyone else with predictions?
  9. I applied to Leicester. I had my interview Monday and for some reason every time I think about it, I feel more and more pessimistic. I think am losing it.
  10. Mediaevalist, Any word yet on an interview? My FPA says next week is the last week for interviews. I don't know whether this is speculation on her part or if she actually is privy to matters. Also, she reckons not getting interviewed is not necessarily bad. She knows people who were not interviewed but got the thing. I hope you hear good news.
  11. I just had my interview. I thought the questions were fair though I didn't get any feedback. In hindsight, I could have handled two of the questions differently. Well I gave it my best. Here's hoping we get notified soon!
  12. RRachel1, Not to be facetious but the language in Ireland is actually Irish. Gaelic is one of the subdivisions of the Celtic languages. Irish falls under the Gaelic umbrella. God I'm bored!
  13. Does anyone know how the ranking works? I gather there is ranking every step of the process and sometimes the lowest ranked at one junction could be the highest in another and vice versa.
  14. I have been talking to previous applicants mostly. The issue for me is getting the balance (between underpreparing and overpreparing) right. I think the best advice I got so far is: don't come across as too rehearsed.
  15. Rosy, It's quite confusing, isn't it? Looks like they are interviewing you the week before they speak with me. How are you preparing for it? Everyone says it's not that brutal but this will be the first time I do a telephone interview and am understandably nervous. Mediavalist and Dbloom- The emails are trickling in. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
  16. Do we know if this is the number of applicants in relation to the number of projected placements or the recommended number and the projected placement?
  17. Rosy I hope you get the chance to work with the professor.
  18. Hey rosy! I am applying to Leicester's International Relations master's program. How about you?
  19. Hey Rosy!I am applying for a partnership study award. I agree it's award-by-award basis. A friend also applying for the UK is yet to hear about an interview. There seems to be consensus that everyone gets interviewed.
  20. So this morning I got the email inviting me to telephone interview on the 23rd. I am applying to the UK. I am nervous but at the same time excited. If there are any applicants from last year who could give me a rough picture of the process (setting, the tone of the questions, etc), I will be most grateful.BTW are any other UK applicants interviewing the same week?
  21. I agree with your sentiments. Having said that if you look at the FAQ section (particularly questions 1 and 5), it's clear that not getting an interview is as good as rejection. Question 5 asks, "I haven't been selected for a telephone interview. Can I find out why? and the answer is: The application pool is large and highly competitive. Given the number of applications received, it is not possible for the Commission to provide feedback on unsuccessful applications. The website says the telephone interviews will be between Mid January and Mid February so fingers crossed for all of us.
  22. Congratulations on the Marshall! I also wonder the same. For schools with only 1 slot, they can only recommend 2 since 1.5 doesn't make sense. Good luck to you on your endeavors and good luck to the other person applying to Imperial.
  23. Good luck to you Bluefit. I hope you get the fellowship. I am assuming that yours is the scholar program?
