  1. Sometimes that can work against you (as far as the rec goes)
  2. Comments retracted...don't they have an age requirement to join this forum? No reason to act like 12 year olds. I thought I was being generous sharing ANYTHING. Anyone with half a brain could have figured it out, or with half the manners my dog has could have simply PM'ed me.
  3. Different uses of photography mixed with a bunch of performance stuff...I'd also like to say a healthy mix of dry conceptual and institutional critique.
  4. Just checked my Slideroom for USC and Columbia and USC's thing says "MFA SECOND ROUND", sounds good to me!
  5. Ya, I had a drunken blardy blardy night (like pirates) with a couple of friends going for PHDs in film studies talking about this type of situation. I think its hilarious that all it comes down to is some stupid mistake somewhere.
  6. damn, more UCLA results... :/ I wonder why people are so afraid of the schools looking at posts? I mean really, do you think they are going to base their whole decision on what you say on a message board? I mean, that shit is weird, if they would use it to somehow pin you to the wall, do you really want to go there anyways? I still want to know if anyone has heard (or heard of anyone hearing) from any of these schools: USC UCSD RISD Columbia
  7. Welcome to the hungover still possibly drunk student clerical worker who is your gate keeper. This happened to a friend at Northwestern and there was nothing that could be done about it.
  8. What drew you to Riverside?
  9. Guess I'll just file this one into the "no news is not good news category"... Even though I did apply for NG...and not painting, I think they'd be rendering decisions faster though since they are a small dept.
  10. I second this comment, I got my undergrad from SFAI...loved it.
  11. Oh, and a recommender today ran into a faculty from a school that I was accepted to and she said she was specifically told that her letter made a difference in their decision. She is usually not one to BS about this kind of stuff (she is pretty straightforward), so I was stoked about it. So those of you that think recommenders don't matter or that they don't read the letters, they definitely do. Make sure they all get in!
  12. Ya, I got the RISD email too. Also just got one from USC asking for more financial aid info. Seems pretty typical for schools to be on top of the financial stuff this year...
  13. I haven't heard back from them, it was just good to hear people were hearing back from them at all.
  14. Good to hear, I was starting to wonder about them. I'm going for NG there.
  15. Ya, its not that I don't want to go to grad school, you and I are in the same boat, we want teaching experience as well as a little time. I don't think there is a set path for me at all, I really only applied to schools I visited, and RISD seemed to be a fluke that i even ended up on that campus, even bigger fluke that I ran right into the head of the dept I wanted to apply to (steve smith) and got to sit and talk with him about the program. I got it in a little early, they called me about a week after the deadline stating that I had been accepted. I just recently about a week ago (jan 31st) got an official looking email from them saying that a decision is available for my application: "It is our pleasure to inform you that you have been admitted for graduate study at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Chancellor Henry T. Yang and I congratulate you and know that your academic studies will be both invigorating and rewarding. You have been admitted for Fall 2011 to the Department of Art for: -Master of Fine Arts (MFA)" Oh...and I forget what discipline I applied for...I think it was either photo or digital media...but their program the more I look at it seems like a good fit.
  16. Thanks, ya, just frustrating that so much of my future is wrapped in this weird decision making process that the schools go through.
  17. Very techno oriented, a lot of it is spanning the gamut of technology, I use scripts, found image, devices...all kinds of stuff. Here: www.chrissilva.net - go check it out, not everything there was in my portfolio and not all of my portfolio was stuff that is on there.
  18. I'd imagine yes and no, I think generally a lot of schools don't like you calling a bunch or really bothering them with your app, if everyone did that at lets say Yale or UCLA imagine how many calls they would be fielding a day just for people who want to "advocate" for themselves, it seems like a lost battle to me. It is obvious you want to go there since you are applying. I think you are just over thinking a choice of words the person on the phone chose to use.
  19. Ya, I think I'd be taking it harder if I hadn't already been accepted to another UC...oh well, on to the next one. I know competing at this tier is mostly denials, even with art, I think I've been denied more chances to show than I've been accepted to, some people feel me and love it, some don't and write me off. Its kind of the path I've chosen...
