  1. I've been to UCLA. The studios are kind of dumpy, but a good program. The studios aren't on the main campus, they are kind of in an industrial area. I really wish Chris Burden was still there.
  2. Gah, this makes me wish I had applied to the sculpture dept again this year...instead of photo. I would say that my portfolio is split 50/50 with photo/performance (and other things). Most of my photo isn't dealing with photography as much as it is documenting something ephemeral.
  3. I thought that all schools required an interview until I got a call saying I was accepted to UCSB. I know it isn't the best ranked program, but its definitely not the worst. Kinda weird when most of the other UCs require interviews.
  4. It shows that you are ready and want to go, waiting till the last second always seems like you procrastinated. There is a timestamp on your app and when everything got in, i've heard from people who review grad apps that in the back of their head it does weigh in.
  5. What? you want to stop a PhD program to be an artist? I AM an artist and I wouldn't wish being one on my worst enemy. Its an uphill battle to say the least.
  6. Thanks, ya, at least I know I'll be going somewhere this round...haha
  7. FREEEEEEAAAAAAAAKKKKKKKKKKK OUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTTT UCLA USC UCD UCSD UCSB - Accepted via phone call (mail acceptance coming) Yale Columbia RISD Parsons
  8. Yes, and what that meant was probably you get out of it what you put into it, which is like most things. Anyone else know anything?
  9. Anyone know anything about this program? First hand or even hearsay is ok, I just want to know how it is.
  10. I incorporated performance into my portfolio, it made up about 40% of it. The rest was photo, so I applied New Genres were I could, Photography for the rest. I applied to: UCLA UCSD UCD UCSB USC Yale Columbia RISD Parsons
  11. Wheres the racket? Silderoom is a company...they charge a fee. Columbia University's app fee is a completely separate charge.

    UCSB ART

Anyone know much about this program? Specifically about funding and the program itself in photography or sculpture or any of the media arts stuff. Looking for hearsay or first hand experience, just define which when you reply, haha.
  13. One foot before the other, gotta get the interview first...last year I applied figuring I'd get at least ONE out of five schools....got rejected by them all. I'm applying to eleven schools this year.
  14. The only emails I have are for my application being processed and for my recommendation letters being received, I dont think it lets you process the app unless you have the SOP and CV in it. I sent an email to a couple of the admissions people just to be 100%.
  15. Now you have me worried, lol, I'm pretty sure I uploaded my CV and SOP...but now there is no evidence of it anywhere on their site. ...and I can never get a hold of anyone on the phone.
  16. No, mine actually doesnt have either of those things...I uploaded them with the application though. I don't see them at all on the status page. I have my statement of purpose saved on my HD...I must have uploaded it somewhere. The only thing with a red X next to it is a transcript from a school that I went to for one semester that doesn't allow online viewing of transcripts.
  17. It seems kind of weird for them to expect a significant amount of work made in a month...I guess to see if you are working all of the time or something.
  18. Ya, just size it to whatever the lower number is over the size requirements and you will be fine.
  19. No, I didn't have one problem...waiting till the last second is always asking for trouble. All of my materials are checked off on the online status thing.
  20. Gah...I've heard this and a couple other people warning me away from the program...I was planning on applying too...good thing my app is paid for yet.
  21. Funny I saw this post, I came here exactly to see what people were saying about it. It does seem a little odd, I tried calling them to see if it was a wordy trick and if they just really wanted my artist statement. No one picked up the phone though...
  22. Got my login today (1 day after emailing them)
  23. Ya, I emailed the grad cord for the stuff. I got pretty much everything done, this is my second time around...I feel like I have my crap way more together than I did my first time.
  24. Its pretty easy to insert an image into a document on MS Word
  25. Makes sense...If you are going for a MFA in studio art...what does art education have to do with anything? Yes, we all know that a good chunk of people want to teach, but the whole problem is that a lot of professors out there are working artists...and thats who schools want teaching.
