  1. Side note, seems like EVERYONE on here got into Davis except for me and it was my #1 choice
  2. Ya, maybe that was just a pre-req for me to apply, I don't want to pile on more to the loans. I'd just go wherever you are happy, and I'd take that free trip, They will probably fly you in to Sacramento since it is closer and easier to get to Davis that way. Just so you know, the town of Davis itself is in the middle of NOWHERE , its literally on a stretch of hwy 80 that connects SF to Sacramento, both of which are 40 miles in either direction. Plus it is generally a shit kicker area (cowboy) since there is nothing but farmland all around it. As far as student life goes, the biggest major (that UCD is known for) is agriculture, so expect to meet a lot of farmer/vet types. All in all, I'd just go where you think you are going to be happy. Not trying to talk down Davis at all, I think its a great place, but you really have to know what you are getting into. You have to REALLY like or want to be in California to want to go there, cause its not like LA or whatever notions that you might have of here. ...oh...and the bikes...hope you bring your helmet, bicycles are HUGE in Davis.
  3. I actually visited Davis a couple times since I'm a Bay Area local, it was my first choice for school, just found out today I didn't get in :/ The program is nice from what I heard/saw, it is very independent, the studios aren't HUGE, but they aren't small either. They vary in size greatly and the space is kind of dumpy to be honest. It reminded me of UCLA or my undergrad school SFAI..except a little worse. The saving grace is that you get a full ride and a monthly stipend for TAing. I feel like they are very Bay Area art scene connected and situated right in between Sacramento and SF, making it fairly easy to get to either by car, (you NEED a car if you are going to be in California). I didn't get to meet any of the professors or faculty, just a few students and the grad advisor, everyone was nice and seemed to know what they were talking about and were making pretty decent work. I wouldn't say they are on the EDGE of whats going on in art, but definitely in the realm of the now. BTW, what is a sweet offer? I mean...everyone who gets in gets a full ride and a 25% pay for the 2 years...did they offer you something better than that?
  4. UC Davis today: Deny Reason 12Not competitive with other applicants on the basis of the Audition/tape or portfolio.2/10/2011 2:05:59 PM
  5. Oh man, you are totally screwed!
  6. Which probably means that they made the decision to not admit and I have to wait until the 15th to find out
  7. We are in the process of making a decision on your application for admission. You may review the decision after 8:00 a.m. PST on February 15, 2011, by accessing your UC Davis application on the online admission web site. Please contact the Art MFA program if you have any questions regarding this decision. Best regards,Office of Graduate Admissions and Academic Services University of California, Davis
  8. Sweet with who? I can give you some insight!
  9. oh, and to add to the FREAKOUT Just got this from Davis: "Dear XXXXX, We are in the process of making a decision on your application for admission. You may review the decision after 8:00 a.m. PST on February 15, 2011, by accessing your UC Davis application on the online admission web site. Please contact the Art MFA program if you have any questions regarding this decision. 10. I'll tell you this coming from someone who got their BFA at SFAI last year. I wouldn't have changed anything. I loved the school, loved the people there, loved the art scene in SF. Made some great contacts while I was there and learned a lot about my practice. Your experience is what you make it there, the people who complain would have complained no matter what if no one held their hand. The faculty is there to help you if you want to help yourself, it is a very independent program. There is a big gallery on the undergrad campus and the ending show is at Fort Mason in SF and is a pretty big deal in the Bay Area when it happens.
  11. Ya, in another post I had said that my friend had heard back from SAIC for performance MFA and was accepted.
  12. Ya, I think I would have gotten more out of torching 100$
  13. Just like last year almost EVERY single person I see posting their "list" has MICA on it...I mean, throughout almost 3 years of art school and tons of discussions of those in the "know" almost no one ever recommended MICA to me, but has recommended other well known places like UCLA or Yale. Seems odd to me...I'm also reading about the program...seems extremely independent...
  14. Now I'm REALLY glad I didn't apply.
  15. Ya, thats what I'm chalking it up to at this point, my embark doesn't say anything at all. If the grad coordinator says it aint over, it aint over in most cases. There is hundreds of apps to go through, even if they split them up, I'm sure all the depts meet at different times and whatnot.
  16. TTT^^

    Plan B

My plan B was to take a couple years off, make work and show, then to apply again once the app rush was over (once the economy recovers), since I got in this time around, I don't think I'll have to do that.
  18. Thanks, and no, I emailed Victoria and she said: "Please go to your Embark Account to see if anything has been posted. We have admitted some and have wait listed some. The faculty will me making more decisions in a week or two" Hope that doesn't mean they have admitted who they are going to admit I never did get an email saying that my application was being reviewed.
  19. Congrats, I REALLY want to go there. So Far I've heard back from UCSB (accepted - photography), and a friend has heard back from SAIC (accepted - performance)
  20. I didn't include a postcard, I sent an email to just email me when she got it, BUT JUST LIKE LAST YEAR SHE HASN'T RESPONDED THATS RIGHT CAROL CRONIN I'M TALKING ABOUT YOU!!! She is the only grad advisor that completely ignores me for some reason...
  21. Oh crap...thats my 1st choice for a school...I didn't apply for painting though, so that makes me feel a little better...I think I applied there for Photography or video... Oh, so you guys now, I saw on Facebook a friend say that SAIC called her and told he she was accepted...
  22. Ya, UCSD and UCD had the most essays to complete. But I have a feeling that anyone who applied to UCD got all of their applications done faster than anyone else since they had to be done by the 15th of dec.
  23. I applied to 10 as well...my god, I spent more time on that stuff than I did at my job. I'm just glad I'm at a job where there is enough downtime to write essays and fill out things...
