Lower tier schools in nanoscience/nanotechnology to apply to
ARJS replied to NewDex's topic in Applied Sciences & Mathematics
Try university of Alabama, Huntsville (http://www.uah.edu/nmdc)... Best, -
Well a couple of months ago I had several exchanges of emails and Skype interviews with my POI detailing on the topic of my prospective research and my application to the university. My POI admitted on Skype that he sees my application as very competitive one and that he likes it and he will give positive comments on it for further processing. Guess what... Last week I got a rejection.:-) So no it is not guaranteed if your POI is positive or even enthusiastic about you as was in my case. PS. The POI I'm talking about is a well known figure in my field and has a couple of books published. As he belonged to a well established university, the decision of the university prevailed. All the best.

It highly depends on the publisher and/ or editor. If the publisher is well known like Elseviers, Springers, Taylor & Francis, IEEE etc or the editor is well known in your field, you should not be worried and should send an inquiry email to the editor after a week of submission (and not more than two) to know if the paper has been properly received. For new or relatively unknown publishers I believe you should wait no longer than two days. It is your work and you have every right to know that it's been treated with respect. Hope this answers. Regards

Dear ghataty POI = Professor Of Interest Interview with POI is the academic interview and is quite technical (may be not too much). On the other hand, administrative interview is done by representatives from HR, school administration (not necessarily from your school) and few faculty members (not necessarily from your school). Administrative interview, generally, is not technical, rather, they ask you about your research interests and career goals, reasons behind choosing KAUST etc... For administrative interview for KAUST you might have to fly to a certain country (like Turkey, China, USA, Singapore). But it can be on skype as well. If invited, travel and accommodation is provided by KAUST. I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to ask should there be any confusion or question. Regards

Thank you for sharing your experience. Are you applying for PhD? Did they contact you so far? What was interview like specially the academic one? I am still waiting for any decision / interview call. My VIP page says 'Registered / Waitlisted'. I don't know what waitlisted actually means. Any thoughts please? Asking many questions? I am desperate, may be...
