  2. Hi ,some questions: 1.I got an email saying I am "second in the slot" for digital studies...does this mean I am number one on the wait list because the mail doesn't call itself a wait list email 2.Are all English PhD admits given funding at Maryland? 3.If anyone is dropping/accepting any Digital Studies offer from Maryland ,please let me know thanks
  3. Is the University of Chicago going through an interview process this year??
  4. Thanks.I accept my fate.Life could have been much worse, after all.

  6. Congrats everyone who is getting accepted. Its all hard-earned. So,I wanted to ask Hypervodka if Emory has sent out all its interview calls..sad if that is the case

  10. Duke-Hansen,Hayles;Stanford-Moretti,Woloch;Emory:Otis;Maryland:Kirschenbaum;Chicago:Jagoda,Brown
  11. Don't worry, there is a fraternity of people out there, including me, who have fallen behind, with you.
  12. Thanks for the prompt response, guys!! I am shooting off reco requests like a machine now
  13. Hi people, Just to ask if I can send the online reco requests to my letter writers and then keep polishing my SOP and WS till ,say, three days before deadline?? OR, are reco requests only sent after form submission and fee payment? It seems the first way works..I am also asking the uni authorities directly..
  14. duke accepts by mid-jan??
  15. My letter-writer asked me for my WS and SOP and he knows me well-but I feel really guilty because there are some minor editorial errors which I couldn't proofread out of my materials before I sent it--I did mention that my sample and SOP should be treated as a draft and it needs to be polished....
  16. I have had a difficult day but Wyatt's Torch has lent some of its optimistic light to me-thanks... but you raise another issue that is nagging me as well---should one's academic biography be at the beginning of the SOP or later---you know, there is this general talk about your SOP centering heavily on your research interests---so I was cautious about describing my background in the very beginning---but seems like I can afford it ? thanks a lot, again.
  17. So I have a slightly quirky background--I went to the most selective and most difficult tech school in my country for an undergrad in electrical engineering where I did miserably(including failures) in my engineering courses but took at least ten courses(introductory and graduate) in English and Philosophy as electives(in the US,it would amount to two minors, surely) ,all of which I aced and mostly had the best grades in the whole class. I then went ahead and did a masters in English from arguably the best liberal arts university in the same country and had excellent grades including a couple of international conferences and two publications .I have decent GRE scores now and stellar recommendations---Have I done enough to negate the blips in my engineering undergrad transcript? I also think I have a strong writing sample...please let me know what you think.
  18. I have the exact same problem.I want to work with Katherine Hayles(I mean if I get in) but one reason I am applying to English is because I don't have foreign languages as a strong point.Rudimentary French, thats all
  19. HI,I am finishing up my applications but relying on nice but slightly forgetful recommender. While I have provided them my CV and SOP and Writing sample myself---I would like it better if they can access these materials available at the online app portal directly each time they receive the recommendation request from the application site?It would be convenient then. Does this happen?
  20. Proflorax,my heartfelt gratitude to you for directing me to Krschenbaum.Reading him has not only been enlightening but given my writing sample a real boost. I will treat you if I make the cut.
  21. Thanks Wyatt's torch,I have been thinking of SUNY and you make me feel more keen about it. This competition is daunting .
  22. I am interested in the narrow niche of literature and technology-specifically the impact of digital technologies on the literary---Duke is one great program I can think of? Any other good places, anybody?
