  1. Are anyone else's recommenders having trouble receiving the SOPHAS email? I sent the requests at the beginning of the month and only 1 received it. I am so frustrated with SOPHAS. There is a problem or complication with every single little thing. They finally received my transcript though.
  2. For everyone having problems, I recommend calling them. You will be on hold for a little while, but it's better than waiting for an email reply, in my opinion.
  3. I had a similar problem - it turns out my SSN was wrong in my undergrad university's system. I'm having to jump through hoops to get them to fix it before I can try to send it to SOPHAS again. I sent the transcript to SOPHAS a month ago. I know that it definitely arrived, because I ordered one to myself and got it two days later. You would think that they would have at least tried to process it, given that the SSN error was one number off, and I put my SOPHAS ID number in the address. -_____-
  4. Hi! Thanks for the reply - that is what I ended up doing!
  5. Hi! I completely understand the lack of motivation - studying for the GRE is beyond boring. One thing that I did to stay motivated is pay for one-on-one tutoring, once a week, for 2 months. Like another poster said, I knew if I was paying for something and taking time out of my day to meet with a tutor, I would have to stay on top of the studying. Also, meeting with the tutor gave me incentive because if I met with her with no studying done, it would be a wasteful session and therefore a waste of money. I recommend Manhattan Prep materials - they are the best and really coach you through each topic, whether it be reading or math.
  6. I completely agree with this. The Manhattan Prep math book series helped me improve by 6 points on the quant section. I found that the Kaplan problems were actually easier than the problems on the real GRE.
  7. Hi everybody! I am currently applying to MPH programs, and am confused about which set of GRE scores to send (well, not about which, but whether or not to send both): 1st try - 160V (85th percentile), 148Q (32nd percentile), 4.0W (56th percentile) 2nd try - 158V (79th percentile), 154Q (56th percentile), 4.5W (85th percentile) I'm so frustrated with myself, because all this time I believed I could "super score", the way we did with the SATs way back when. But, since I either have to send both or just the second one, I'm not sure what would look better. I was obviously happier with my first verbal score than my second, but I REALLY don't want schools to see the abominable quant score from my first attempt (the reason I retook the test in the first place). Has anyone discussed this with grad school advisors or career center faculty? I graduated college last year so I don't have easy access to these resources. From my understanding, it really varies depending on the specific school, but I'm afraid to ask admissions myself because I don't want them to know I have this dilemma (silly, I know). Any help would be appreciated!!
  8. Hey BuckyIsOurKing, I am in a similar position. I am interested in working in policy, specifically surrounding racial health disparities. I was an anthropology and biology double major at Emory for undergrad, and I am currently working for an AmeriCorps program on my gap year. I will be applying this fall. If you don't mind me asking, what programs did you decide to apply for? I've been considering a JD/MPH, but am not totally sure it is worth my time. I also would have to take the LSAT, which I know nothing about. My top choices are Emory and GW. Holykrp (haha nice username), are you going to WashU in St. Louis? Thanks!
  9. Ok, so you made a mistake. I'm not a grad school admissions expert, but I have an idea. I don't know much about PT but if PT's have an equivalent of a medical assistant, or some other kind of "tech" position you can get working at a PT place, you could work for a year or two. That would give you distance from the academic misconduct and experience in the field, and you can explain how you learned your lesson in your interviews and apps. It is hard to imagine that academic dishonesty in undergrad would ruin your entire future. Good luck!
  10. Don't worry - I talked to two people I know who are in public health school now and that is when they submitted their apps. I feel a lot better about my timing now!
  11. What does verified even mean? I'm freaking out that I'm not going to meet mid-December deadlines if I submit my app by the end of November!
  12. Yes, I believe that we have to fill it out even though it is redundant. Just like we have to enter all of the courses we've taken even though our transcript is attached. It is so tedious! Also, another question - I just thought about this and totally freaked out. If I am finished my application by the end of November, are schools with deadlines in December going to receive it in time? :/ I'm super worried now!
  13. I am new to the whole process (feeling like I'm a little bit behind) - if it's a centralized application, how do we submit individual essays to each school? Most schools want the personal statement to include why you want their specific program, and I'm afraid I'm accidentally going to send the same one to every school.
