  1. I'm sorry Mo, that's really tough. The CSUs seem to be so crazy competitive.
  2. Makes sense! I'm wrestling with the location aspect a little; I wish I had gone your route and given it more consideration while choosing schools to apply to. My top two are both in great (albeit very different) locations, but one has a much lower cost of living. I'm going to try and make it to the open house for USU so I can get a better feel for everything. I feel like this is such a big decision, I'd hate to screw it up!
  3. I'm interested in finding out what factors people are using to decide between programs for those lucky enough to have more than one offer. Location, money, program specialization, gut feeling?
  4. Hmmm. Obviously you don't want to go somewhere where you're not going to get a good education, but $80,000 is a huge difference. The monthly payments on $100k in loans must be astronomical. You might have more varied clinical placement opportunities at the larger/more expensive school, so I would see if you can talk to someone at the smaller school about what their clinical placements are like. The larger program could potentially give you a bigger network of contacts that could be useful in finding a job after graduation, but the impression I've gathered from talking to some SLPs who are currently working is that once you have your C's you should have very little trouble securing a job (barring an over-saturated market or being extremely picky about location/setting). Have you/can you visit both programs? That might help you get a better feel for them.
  5. I would email the graduate advisor if you still haven't heard anything in the next day or two.
  6. For me, an extra 20k would be too much to stomach. Since you sound like you're really interested in the medical side, maybe talk with some advisors/professors at Elmhurt and compare the curriculum of both schools to see if Elmhurst would meet your needs. $20,000 is a lot of money, plus all the interest as twinguy pointed out.
  7. It's definitely my top choice right now, I still need to sit down and do some serious pros/cons lists though.
  8. Haha, just goes to show that the GRE isn't everything I guess! To be honest I think that my SOP and letters of rec are probably weak points in my application; I definitely could have spent more time personalizing essays for each program, and all 3 of my letters came from online professors so they probably weren't as strong as other applicants' letters.
  9. Just got accepted at Utah State, so excited!
  10. I think they actually did somewhere in the range 60-70 for interviews because of how brief they were, there were slots for about 4 an hour over the course of a day and a half. Interesting that they have a tier system - I wonder how many people end up making it off of the waiting list. Still nothing for me, this wait is so frustrating.
  11. Wow, 5? What all do they want you to do? That would definitely be a pain to do but if it were me I think I'd bite the bullet and do it. I've found this application process to be so torturous, I don't think I could stand to go through it again. BUT if you feel like the school is really not a good fit for you that's understandable.
  12. That sucks, dude. It's been interesting to see the varying tones in rejection letters so far. University of Washington's was pretty nice in my opinion, but the one I got today from CSU Chico was extremely short and to the point.
  13. Just saw someone post a rejection from USU, but I haven't gotten anything yet. Not sure what to make of that!
  14. Yep, it's offered in the summer.
  15. Next week has got to be the week, right? That's what I keep telling myself anyway.
  16. Kind of; I think speaking more slowly would have made me sound a bit less rambling and given me more time to collect my thoughts a bit. My nerves definitely got to me.
  17. Congrats to those of you who got into Boulder! I was pretty bummed to get my first rejection, but I guess I can't be too upset since I've already been accepted elsewhere.
  18. This wait is driving me CRAZY! Happy for all the people getting acceptances today, but I'd love it if the west coast schools would get things moving already!
  19. Personally, that would concern me. I would look at the number of students total that didn't graduate, whether it was a big batch one year or if there are consistently 3+ students failing to finish every year, etc. Definitely see what they have to say at the open house. While I do think that there are probably situations (family emergency, illness, etc) that a school can do little to prevent in terms of certain students failing to complete the program, a consistent number of students not finishing would be a red (or strong yellow) flag for me.
  20. Not really specific to webcam interviews, but try and remember to speak slowly! After my Skype interview I realized that I'd really rattled off answers quite quickly and wished I would have taken the time to breathe a little.
  21. I have no personal experience with the program, but I took a look at their site out of curiosity after I saw that post on the results page. According to ASHA Edfind it looks like they enroll around 17-20 students per cohort, but the latest student outcome stats on their site (2012-2013) show only 11 students graduating. Definitely something I'd do a little more digging about if you're considering going there; there could be a perfectly reasonable explanation but it's something to look into.
  22. I found that a little curious - in the past they've given decisions by email, and never so early. I'm not too worried by it since it's only a single post.
  23. Do you mean what GPA when applying TO the post bacc program? Or what GPA from the post bacc program when applying to grad programs?
  24. I would worry about being interrupted or the interviewer having trouble hearing me at someplace busy like Starbucks. Definitely see if your library has private rooms, that would be a much better place in my opinion.
