  1. How long after we interview will we hear back for the results?
  2. I think the entire molecular biosciences sends out invites. Even though I applied for developmental biology they lump it all in one. I was contacted by the molecular biosciences division for interviews. The first interview session is this coming Thursday so I think all invites are out.
  3. womp womp Rockefeller rejection at this point my interview list is finalized. best of luck for everyone still waiting on interview invites! Has anyone had any interviews yet? Slash any tips on what to expect or questions they might throw at us?
  4. I hope its not treated as a backup plan. I think at this stage people will know what route they want to take. My friends in medical school are extremely passionate about what they do, and I can't even imagine them as anything but in the medical field. Those generally applying for a PhD really enjoy research and genuinely want to take part in academia. I think if it's treated as a backup then you're definitely in it for the wrong reasons and won't enjoy graduate school or take advantage of the experience fully. I think if you're dream is to go to medical school you shouldn't give up on it!
  5. Wait did you contact them or was that an e-mail sent to all applicants? I didn't get that memo :-/
  6. Sorry I think this is the wrong subtopic. This is for Biology related PhD's. I'm sure there's a sub page more tuned to your interests that would have better input!
  7. Are rockefeller invites all out? From last year's results it looks like they only sent out invites Jan 14/15.
  8. We overlap for our Weill Cornell and Columbia interviews! These are my top choices at this point, I'm pumped!
  9. Hey Guys! I applied too. My status went from preliminary match, to matched, and it's been at Held for about a week now. I read last year's thread about the GEM fellowship and still don't really understand what Matched and Held and Released means!
  10. Congrats! may I ask what you're concentration is? just curious! you're getting awesome invites! I'm sending good vibes your way ~~~
  11. I contacted Hopkins neuroscience and all invites have been sent out and I was rejected. sorry
  12. Any info on Stanford developmental biology? i saw one person got an invite on the results search but nothing else
  13. Gah I'm waiting on an interview for them! I hope i get it. That's awesome that you're interviewing there!
  14. Whoah congrats! thats super fast!!! did you have an interview? Best of luck Dr. Amertume!
  15. I would definitely take a year between undergrad and grad and either get a master's (if you can find funding) or get a job as a lab tech and really boost your lab experience. During that year you should definitely work on getting that GRE up. My GRE was relatively low, but my lab experience and master's GPA outweighed a few of my blemishes on my application. Definitely work on boosting your lab experience, raise your GRE score up a bit, and if you decide to go the master's or research tech route - work on getting a stellar LOR. Those can definitely help. I wouldn't rely on transferring into a PhD, there's a lot that can happen (good and bad!) in a year. But if you know 100% that this is the person you want to work with and you can find funding, go for it. But be aware there are many routes you can take to pump up your application for next season if that's what you're hoping to do! Best of luck to you!
  16. I don't think NIH reporter takes into account all the grad students/postdocs that the PI has. The PI may have a lot of funding, but it might be going to other places other than students. Yes, it will give you a good idea about the grant writing in the lab, but I don't think it will really tell you if a PI is able and willing to take a grad student, which is a pretty critical piece of information.
  17. Definitely ask about their mentoring philosophy and really make sure it vibes with how you want to work. If you're a more independent person in the lab, you might want a mentor who is more hands off. On the other hand, you may just like someone who's really hands on. Also ask where the PI's previous grad students are. Maybe what the PI expects of a successful graduate student and what he/she does for grads in terms of conferences/papers/presentations/etc Is it taboo to ask about funding? I feel like this is important but a very touchy subject...
  18. Nothing from Rockefeller yet. I called the dean and she said that they are finalizing invites and they may go out this week or next week. Looking at the previous years they went out around this time (last year it was january 14). I'm crossing my fingers!
  19. I'm interviewing at Sackler. All I know is the research ranking from the medical school (which is pretty damn strong). Other than that, I have no idea... Would love to know, also! I just applied because its in NYC.
  20. Anyone know if Princeton@Biology is completely done? I'm hopeful, but at this point I'm just assuming a rejection is headed my way
  21. All interview invites have been sent out for Harvard sysbio
  22. I'll be at Cornell Feb 11-13. I'm so excited they sent out a survey for some broadway shows. I didn't realize that these interviews would be somewhat fun ahha
  23. @Funny Current, not interviewing on those days, but I'll be interviewing with the Department of Genetics and Development at CUMC early in February. I'd like to know what you think of the campus and anything before I interview! Warm up the interview committee for me!
  24. @xxyyxx i heard from Sackler two weeks ago Dec 24. I applied to the developmental biology/biological imaging departments, not sure if they have multiple waves of interviews.
