If you can come with 1/2 first author publications and get two strong recos from profs for your research you can get into top programs. Your profile suggests you are working towards that.

Better try calling them directly about the issue. It might help.

Keep Times new roman Font: 12. Line spacing 1 or 1.5. Make sure it doesn't go over two pages. Better to keep it around 1.5 pages or so. If possible talk a little bit about your extracurricular/positions/awards to show you are a well rounded person. I would suggest you not to write that you are misguided in doing both bachelors and masters. Instead you can try to say how your focus shifted gradually from ECE to CS through your projects/ courses/ job. Try to use your bachelors and Masters degree projects/courses/research to your advantage. If you can get a general theme of your area of interest throughout you SOP (You interest in CS or specific area in CS), it will look good. Also look into the Univs research labs which interests you and try to incorporate it if possible. Otherwise yours look good to me.

I think you have a chance in Top 50 colleges if you get a good GRE, TOEFL scores, LOR and SOP.

Don't write about your research interests in Personal History statement. Write that in your SOP.

AS far as I know, if the LORs had to be done online by the referee they give some additional time for them to complete say like a week extra. But since you have to upload the LOR, I am not sure. There is no harm in asking the grad office regarding that.

I am not from CS. But I can give a general review based on my experience in applying for MS.

I would suggest the assistant professor and the professor as you have worked with them or their grad student.

Before spending anytime thinking, just go ahead and tell your referee that you need to upload the LOR and not him and again send a gentle reminder of the deadline. Since you have to upload you have a weeks time and I think it will work out well.

I would suggest you to look at other univs like UBC, Alberta, Toronto, Waterloo as well. Check if they have civil eng programs. I cannot comment on your application as I am from ECE but I can say you have a good chance of getting admission in one of these univs if you have strong LOR and SOP.

As far as I know UTD has rolling admissions. SO if you apply early you will get your decision early. I have seen acceptance for Fall 2015 by November end. It took almost a month to know their decision. So apply early by November or December if you can.

Its recommended to have a score above atleast 310 with Q above atleast 160 or probably 165. Above 320 makes your scores favorable for all universities. Your work ex will not be of help if its unrelated but your projects and grades will help

No Internship is not compulsory but most students do it and it helps while applying for full time jobs.

I like google sites. Its simple and easy. It has the basic themes and look is normal.

I want to make sure that I get an admit with scholarship in one of these universities. I am not optimistic of chances in tier one universities - MIT, Stanford, Berkley, UCLA. I found the research groups in these interesting and hope to get admitted to one of these programs. Thanks for your reply. I have applied to all the universities and its waiting time now. I thought GRE Verbal was good enough (162 (640 Old)). Yes AWA is low but hope it gets compensated by my research papers in IEEE.

Thanks for your replies - Hyraxes and RP15. I have done research in Power Electronics and I have around 1.5 year research experience. I will be getting two strong LORs from Profs I have done research with.in Canada and I am happy with my SOP. Its decent. i have done two years of teaching assistantship.
