Does anybody know if it's possible to do the USTA in Austria after the Fulbright ETA in Germany, or do they prefer not to select Fulbrighters? I wish I'd known more about USTA during the application period-- it seems great, too!

Actually, I was just told by someone that I shouldn't have a masters degree in education while applying to become an ETA. Is that true?

Hello all, I'm currently facing a dilemma. I have been accepted to a handful of master + certification programs that I would love to attend and have provided me with great funding/scholarship offers, and I have just found out that I have been chosen for a Fulbright ETA grant for next year. The problem is that so far, all of the programs have indicated that I would either need to re-apply entirely or would need to re-apply for funding if I took a year off to do the Fulbright. Right now I'm really concerned about risking these great funding offers (especially because the Fulbright dates might prevent me from immediately going on to attend these programs, which start in the summer). For this reason, I'm considering re-applying for the Fulbright for next year (after these 12- to 16-month programs would be over), but I'm worried that this would present an obstacle for starting my teaching career. Does anybody have any experience with taking a gap year between completing certification and beginning teaching? Would it be difficult to have that break during the time when you would normally be transitioning from the masters program to a job? If I came back from the Fulbright at the end of June or beginning of July, do you think that most schools would have already hired their new teachers for the next school year? Thanks for your help!

I'm not happy to be considering this possibility, but here goes: Does anyone know of any cases in which a person has received a Fulbright ETA grant (for Germany, in this case), had to reject it for one reason or another, and then re-applied the next year? Do you think the Fulbright commission would hold it against them for having rejected the offer previously? Is it harder to apply during grad school than during undergrad? Please let me know if you have any experience with this or know anybody who does! Thanks.

Question for anyone who might know this detail: what type of visa do German ETAs end up getting? (It's one that authorizes working, right?) I ask because I'm trying to figure out if my husband will be permitted to work while he's there with me. It looks like, from what I've found, that it depends on what type of visa I have, but not totally sure about that.

Hi all, I am working on an application to the University of Texas at Austin, and I just came across the following question: If you are not offered a financial award, do you still plan to enroll if offered admission? (Y/N) Do any of you know what implications an answer either way has? I'm concerned that they'll either be less likely to offer me an award or less likely to offer me admission depending on how I respond. Thanks!
