Just got accepted from the LSE/USC joint program in Global Communication and Global Media. It's a 2 year program (One in London, one in LA) that earns you 2 MAs, but funding is tough to come by. I'll find out later about my funding offer, but I 99% sure that I would have to take out significant loans. But still an option worth considering! And I would never want to complain about an acceptance!

programs that focus more on last 60 credits
thegnuguy replied to amg1322's topic in Journalism Forum
If it means anything to you, I was just accepted to Stanford's Journalism MA program for '15 with a C+ in one of my high-level reporting courses and a C in photojournalism, which were both part of my last 60 credits. My writing samples, LoR's and SoP were strong enough (apparently!) to compensate for one or two professor's opinions of my work. My overall GPA was still >3.5 and my grades in other journalism courses were excellent. Still relevant though! -
Hey guys, I know this is a thread about Berkeley, but Stanford sent out some notices recently and I was accepted to their Journalism MA!

Elite School/Some funding vs Decent School/Full Funding
thegnuguy replied to thegnuguy's topic in Decisions, Decisions
Well, it's possible if you apply to diverse programs, like Journalism/Media Studies/Media, Tech, Society/Global Media etc. Each degree qualifies students for a different profession and area of expertise, so, depending on the ultimate goals of the student, one school could be extremely different in the rewards and benefits. -
Hey. I'm trying to gauge the value of different programs and the associated loans. How much is too much in your opinion? You can answer with whatever program type you are familiar with. How much would you definitely be willing to take? $5,000? More? I'm curious! =D

Fall 2015 Cycle: Communication Studies
thegnuguy replied to hnotis's topic in Communication and Public Relation Forum
Nervous to join......this is my first post. Wanting to study media/society/tech/human rights. Two years research experience, one in tech one in human rights. Relevant thesis, accepted for publication in 2015. GRE: 168V, 162Q, 5.5AW 2 great letter of rec, the third is solid but probably a step down. Decent (by my estimation) SoPs. Applying to USC, Stanford, MIT, Oregon, Michigan St, London School of Econ, UCSD and NYU. Gulp.
