  1. Thanks for the info. What sub-field is your POI associated with?
  2. It really has. Not that I'm an expert, but I did do some OCD research on all the schools I applied to dating back as far as it would let me go on the survey page. 2015 has, thus far, been unlike any other year for all of them.
  3. It's not over till it's over. Remember that the amount of prospective grad students who use gradcafe is probably a small percentage. I see on the results page that there have been several acceptances and rejections sent out by Cornell over the past week. You could easily double those numbers based on how many Cornell applicants don't use this site. Thus if you haven't been rejected yet, that's probably a sign to at least hold onto some hope. For all you know you might just have a slow POI who hasn't had the time to notify you. Based on reading all the stories on the Waiting It Out forum, there's several folks who have been accepted when it looked like schools had already accepted everyone, so until you get a definitive response, hold your head up high. You've already gotten into two great programs so Cornell is definitely in your stratosphere.
  4. I'm in the same boat as you. For my mental health I'm trying to imagine them as rejections, but you can never be sure until you're actually notified.
  5. Hopefully by the end of this week at the latest
  6. Props for having an avatar showing off my other favorite show . And I feel ya. I think it's best to stay clear of the history forums right now IMO. They don't know anything for sure, and until we get firm answers back I hesitate to speculate. Best of luck to ya; bow ties are cool
  7. And this is why I try to stay away from this thread. False hope is better than none at all . Back to pacing the hallways for me!
  8. And Cornell, perhaps? I'm not too sure how it all works though I have my theories. Based on my extensive research of the results (what else can a waiting man do), I've noticed that some years schools (like UCLA for instance) have mass-releases. A good example is Berkeley this year. Then, some years, schools seem to trickle out acceptances over a week or more, or have multiple cycles of admission. I'm guessing the latter happens when one particular subset of the history department is slow in evaluating applicants, or just needs more time to choose, but the others are ready. For certain east coast schools I'm sure you can take the weather into account as well. I know at Cornell they've been absolutely hammered (I've gotten many texts with pictures demonstrating the blizzard-y conditions)! That alone probably adds a week to the evaluation time for some departments.
  9. Strangely enough the moving/logistics aspect of Grad School is what makes me nervous! I know I can tackle the coursework.
  10. We can always pass the time by writing research papers on that subject. Heck, we have all the primary source material we need just a few pages back
  11. Congrats!!

  13. Sorry man :\ At least they took the time to sign and mail real letters to us.
  14. Freaking Berkeley. Sometimes I feel they try to be deliberately more exclusive than Ivy Leagues just to prove a point.
  15. Definitely! I really do pray for a couple more acceptances though just so I can compare funding offers.
  16. Just got rejected by UW and WashU nearly simultaneously . Kind of a bummer! Was lukewarm about UW anyways, but thought WashU was a great fit. Oh well, still 4 more to hear back from!
  17. I'm hoping tomorrow will be a big day in general. Seems barely any history departments have reported admissions, and history tells (ha ha ha) that many report around Feb 6th (or it's equivalent on the calendar).
  18. If it's a friendly e-mail just saying hello I don't think it'll hurt. But it won't make or break you either way. The main benefit of e-mailing POIs in my experience was just getting a feel for their personality.
  19. Freaked out getting that e-mail from the UC Board of Regents today.
  20. Mostly because they can. I bet none of them like being on adcoms. So once they pick who they want they probably start to procrastinate on the rejections.
  21. If you're looking for Universities to be efficient then you're in the wrong business
  22. Whelp Jan. 26th is the first day that people started getting responses based on my analyses of the results search, and I haven't heard from anyone. Guess that means I'm done for, even if only 1/2000 of the results I read were posted on Jan. 26th.
  23. I was going to apply to 5 but upped it to 7 at the last minute. TBH at some point you're not improving your chances, just spending money. The problem is that that number differs for everyone.

  25. Crunch time begins this week baby. My body is ready.
