I can't imagine it has. I think InHacSpe is right and that there are many overlaps between the two positions. My 'contact' at my WL school is the DGS but that's because I've had all my communication about my application from him -and like InHac I have no clue who the head of the adcomm is. Hear hear, all I want now is a definite yay or nay. -
Summer plans?
Katla replied to __________________________'s topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I'll be leaving my job in a couple of months and then spend as many weeks as possible in India studying Hindi... Then obviously there's the logistics of moving across the Atlantic which involves going via my home country to leave some boxes at my parents' and probably pack some new ones... I could do without that :S -

Thanks for the advice InHac! I haven't contacted my wl place since the very beginning of this month and I've been in two minds about whether to contact them again, I don't want to be pushy but it would also be fantastic to know whether I should still even play with the thought of them being a possibility... -
Sending positive vibes your way jhefflol!!!!

InHacSpe I'm rooting for you!!!!! I can't imagine the stress of being purposefully kept in limbo when firm decisions are starting to be made everywhere. I really do think that it's a sign that you've done something right that you're getting all these waitlistings because they wouldn't waitlist you if they didn't want you in their programme but I guess there comes a point when all you want is some bloody guarantee -
Thank you all for this! It's pretty much confirming that I was right to feel apprehensive -moving somewhere for at least four, most likely 5-7 years with no money guaranteed beyond the first three feels pretty daunting, even more so as an international student. In fairness to U Washington I've been accepted to the post-MA track so it's thought of as a four year programme but Madison's offer and the situation in Wisconsin has me nervous as heck.

Just a quick question, how much (if at all) should ranking and other considerations play into things if programmes offer considerably different funding packages? At the moment I'm (potentially?) waitlisted at Rutgers who offer five years and have offers at UW (4 years) and UW Madison (3 years). Fit-wise I think they'll all be grand and ranking wise I don't know whether I should pay most attention to my home department (Comp Lit) or other departments such as Lat Am, South Asian studies, English and Gender which i'm likely to have a good deal to do with because they're affiliated with the languages/regions/areas that I'll be working with. Given the financial uncertainty surrounding everything to do with grad school my guess is a whole year more of funding is a pretty decisive factor but I don't know whether I'm attributing it too much weight. Any advice is appreciated

Good morning everyone! I've been lurking on and off in this thread as I'm a partial Latin Americanist though I've only applied to Comp Lit departments. I've been accepted to a couple of unis: U Washington and Wisconsin Madison as well as waitlisted (I think) at Rutgers, does anyone know how these are considered for Lat Am literature/cultural studies (I'm particularly interested in Southern cone foundational fiction and Mexican border lit)? I have zero experience of the US university system so any guidance would be appreciated Also, congratulations to all who have received good news this season and best of luck to those still waiting!!!!
-
Thanks! I got in at Wisconsin Madison and Washington, which both sound great, so I really have no reason to complain Although I do wonder at rejections' power to completely undermine any sense of accomplishment you might have felt about being accepted somewhere else.
-
I wonder if it's a rule that rejections must come in pairs... I woke up to a rejection email from UCLA and have just come home to another one from Stanford... now I just need to find out what Rutgers wants and I can officially call this season over.

comparative literature acceptance thread!
Katla replied to Appppplication's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I had an interview with them some three weeks ago or so and what I've heard from them since its that they've made their initial acceptances. The only reason they'd send out more is if these first ones don't accept. Sorry youngcharlie! And yes, huge congratulations to you rodomonte! -

Wow, congratulations!!!! That's excellent news!!! I know nothing about the programme or the university though it's supposed to be good... I know you're already getting a two year masters from Glasgow and somewhere in Spain and technically have a PhD lined up with your supervisor, no? How would funding work for that? I think the setup for American mas are slightly different from the British ones so it could be a great opportunity to further develop your research and network... It might maske it easier to apply for the PhDs next time around... On the other hand you might have a really good idea of these things already or this could feel more like passing time rather than actually helping you progress research wise... Basically is a tricky one... I think I would let it depends on how certain type UK phd is... Regardless though, huge congratulations!!! -

Wow, congratulations allpaid! It's wonderful to hear that there it is possible to transition from the waitlist limbo! InHacSpe, I'm rooting so hard for you! It must be so frustrating to have that early deadline looming over you! But good to hear that the other unis are so understanding! And congrats on the waitlists (both the real one and the quasi one) Also congrats to you fauxlita, keeping my fingers crossed! -

I'm pretty sure someone posted about having had an interview with them in the interview thread, so my guess is they have made their initial approaches to some candidates. -
Clearly this is the day for converting implied rejections into the real deal, I just got mine from NYU. Actually, I'm suprised to receive it this early. Now if Stanford and UCLA could come out with theirs I can almost stop checking my emails.

After a random check on my Harvard application I have now been officially rejected. I'm pleased to discover I'm completely at peace with it
