  1. Argh, I totally get your frustration. I have been going through a similar issue for a different university (and I even sent them effing original transcripts only I sent them rather than my university). I can only say with kurayamino and WT that I also only provided unofficial transcripts when I applied for their Comp Lit programme and that looking at the webpage's checklist it says my application is complete. Scrolling down to transcripts it says 'Received' (Not Official)' and it says that official transcripts are required for a formal admission but that the review can go through with the scanned versions. There's obviously no saying but it would seem weird if the MTL programme was markedly different from both Comp Lit and English... But I hope it all works out in your favour!!!
  2. Very wise words. I guess I spoke as someone whose only experience of a US master was a consolation cash cow programme when I applied a few years ago. But I did actually end up going to an unfunded masters programme elsewhere and I think it was really helpful in making me realise what I want as a scholar
  3. TeaOverCoffee I feel your pain, I think an unfunded offer from a US institution is bound to feel more painful because they're leaving the supposed decision in your hands but really there's no decision to make because of the price tag. And yes yes yes, congrats to the UCLA and UC Davis admits. Keep on rocking!
  4. Has there been any official rejections from their English department yet? If there had It wouldn't give up all hope yet... My aplication for comp lit says rejected already, so provided the departments are somewhat similar all hope may not be lost... WT sorry about Northwestern! Bear hugs! And positive vibes that you'll get that wonderful email or phone call!!!!
  5. I did an MSt there a couple of years ago and I didn't have an interview... But yes, it varies from programme to programme as Kleene says... I do think many of the one year masters, at least in humanities, are less likely to have an interview
  6. Yes darn you But seriously, how can not make any sudden change to a system into a sign of doom and decision-making?
  7. Congratulations to all you awesome new admits! At the moment I'm trying to shrug it off, but I have a feeling that teenage-territory is waiting for me around the corner. Still, I appreciate that instead of toying with my feelings and stringing me along with false hopes for months they gave me a quick death. I'd like to think this may help me move on faster...
  8. Congratulations Submarinereflection!!! You lucky wonderful duck what amazing news!!! I got the official rejection this morning too:( So no Francine Masiello or JB for me. But as quena said, it's just good to know! And also I'm just really happy that some people from this board made it!
  9. I'm worth Submarinereflection! Until there's a no, or at least one UCB notification on the results board losing hope is not an option.
  10. Hypervodka, what amazing news!!! Congratulations!!! And AsKingfishersCatchFire huge congratulations to you too!!!! You guys are all so amazing! Obrial42, sorry about your rejection. Tight hugs.

  16. Thanks WT! and yes, excitement was the definitely the first thing I felt, followed quickly by dread and wonder...
  17. I haven't read his daughter's memoir but I'll definitely check it out, thanks for the suggestion! Postcol thery is definitely brilliant though my heart of hearts belongs to queer theory! I hope I get to work with both in my further research!
  18. Argh, I'm so glad this thread exists as a somewhat similar thing has just happened to me, a DGS has written to me telling me I'm on the shortlist (they're waiting to hear about funding) and want to set up a Skype interview to chat about the university and "convey their excitement about my application" -which I'm guessing could be code for interview, especially as the word shortlist also appear. Guess I'll have to face my fears and look at my SoAP and WS again
  19. According to Sarah Miller I am going to have an amazing 2015, bring it on!
  20. I'm sorry about this! Hopefully you get some great news soon! Or maybe the sudden activity created by adcomm people checking your profile is making them think that everybody is interested in a candidate like you!

  22. Ah, but I don't want to detail the conversation, I'm a comp lit'ist so clearly had no reason for stalking the rhet/comp forum ;-)
  23. Yep, definitely huge congratulations! Their programme sounds amazing. Nahis I also applied and haven't heard anything, definitely feeling your nerves...
