  1. Alack, the site doesn't take kindly to people outside of the US. Thanks for sharing anyway
  2. Tell me about it, I'm in desperate need of a more calming and productive hobby
  3. Congrats it sounds like such an amazing place... And yes, declare yourself you lucky person you :-)
  4. Same here. It's one of the things that tells me that application season is not an ideal state for human beings but rather one step closer to bat shit craziness.
  5. Same here, it's all chocolate and wine and then more chocolate and wine.
  6. Congratulations!!! What fantastic news!! (this also makes me happy for extremely selfish reasons, clearly it is possible for international applicants to get funded at public unis, wehey!)
  7. Congratulations to all the lucky OSU admits!!!
  8. Alack, no it's all quiet on all fronts unfortunately... And weirdly enough checking in here or my email does not change it...
  9. Hahaha! Brilliant! It's always good to be reminded how many of our fears are strictly in our own heads.
  10. Tell me about it, I used to angst for days about how to write simple emails to my professors and lecturers -in fact, I still do, as my emails to my LORs bear embarrassing evidence of
  11. Wow, that's amazing! I would give an arm and a leg to work with Halberstam! (also, is it just me that has to remind myself there probably was some reason (good or bad) for why I didn't apply every time someone mentions a programme and its amazing professors?)
  12. Congrats to everyone who's getting such lovely, heartwarming news... Though yes, details please!!!
  13. II'm 99,9999% sure this means that people received an email inviting them to an interview to be held at a later date via phone, Skype or in person...
  14. I went through my Masters constantly feeling like a failure and worrying that my supervisor and the university regretted admitting me. It took me a while to realise that more than half of my classmates probably had similar insecurities and doubts -and we all made it out alive. It's okay to acknowledge the awful voices in your head, but don't let it fool you into thinking you're not good/accomplished/clever enough to be there!
  15. This is so true and why I hate being told by my friends that of course I'll get in somewhere... I know I probably am just as good as everybody else who's applying, but I also know that excellent candidates get rejected by programmes all the time and it's really difficult to predict any outcome.. We've basically all paid to send out unsolicited proposals to unis that for one reason or other we think would be great but there's no telling what they think or what kind of cohort they want one particular year, it makes me go from confident to depressed in nanoseconds...
  16. Congratulations! What an amazing accomplishment!
  17. Thanks for this hypervodka! That definitely helps to calm my nerves. The deadline isn't until the 19th, so hopefully that will make them extra forgiving. Mine too (but for Comp Lit). The thought of getting a reply from them makes me equal bits excited and nauseous.
  18. SHIIIIIIIIIIT!!! I just submitted the first half of an application yesterday and today I discovered there was a limit to the SoAP, and I had been trawling their website for a clue to this (but clearly forgot to look the most obvious place). I feel so stupid, mine is like twice the length. I've contacted them about it, but I have the worst feeling in my belly that this will end badly.
  19. Congratulations unræd and hypervodka!!!! What amazing news!!!
  20. He was a visiting professor at my undergrad uni in my final year and he was bloody amazing!!!
  21. I'm applying to four on that side -Berkeley. Stanford, UCLA and U Washington... So count me in on the Stanford hopefuls... @snyegurachka, you sound like an amazing candidate!!! I love the sound of your proposal!
  22. Have you read David Eng's The Feeling of Kinship, as I recall that also makes some rather interesting points
  23. Sorry, I'm afraid I don't know. I didn't apply to Emory myself (though the programme looked to die for), so I haven't really investigated their procedures. Hopefully someone else can bring some light on this. And definitely don't lose hope yet!
  24. Judging by the results board it looks like Emory has also sent out interview invitations to Comp Lit students, congratulations to whoever it is. I think this is the first Comp Lit notification of the season, reality is truly starting to hit.
  25. This is an amazing list Lyonessrampant!!! I feel so naive, I'm so consumed with worries about the getting in that I've not thought about what follows at all...
