  1. Let me first say that it has been a while since I have logged on to this forum and I have just now seen all of these comments. While I do appreciate the honestly, I do NOT appreciate the negativity and offensive comments that were made. I am a senior and really just simply did not have the time between work, school and extra curricular activities to spend almost $1000 on GRE prep classes AND reschedule another test date before application season. I am taking my chances applying this term and if it doesn't happen, so be it. I will take a semester off and try again at another time. And with my time off from school, THEN I will take time to prepare myself for the GRE's once again. Let me just say that I am a HORRIBLE test taker and have terrible test anxiety, especially when it comes to standardized testing. To me, standardized testing should not play an important role in judging an individual's abilities. I do realize that some of the schools I applied to do rely heavily on the GRE, which I think is absurd. But regardless, I'm hoping that they take into account all of the other things on my resume/application that I have to offer. I will also say that although my GRE schools are on the lower end, they do STILL fall into the ranges that I've found on ASHA's edfind for each school I've applied to (if they didn't fit within that range, I would not have applied). I posted on here again simply to gain advice/insight from people who HAD NOT commented before, possibly from individuals who are new to the thread or hadn't seen my old post. Thank you again to everyone for the KIND support and honesty. But to those of you who are here to simply criticize me, please refrain from commenting on my posts any further.
  2. I appreciate your honesty. I know my GRE's are on the lower side, mostly because I did not have adequate preparation for them at all. If I don't get accepted anywhere this application cycle, I'm going to retake them and gain more in field experience and try again next time. And then if for some reason it still doesn't happen, I have a few different back-up plans. I feel that my personal statements for each school are compelling and really show my passion for this career path. I'm most certain that my LOR's are very good. On CSDCAS, I actually have 4 LORs, three from my favorite professors within CMD and one from the SLP that I volunteered and shadowed for. Do you think they would read all 4 even though most schools only require 3? But yes, 14 schools all in different regions! Thanks for the support!
  3. Yes, I threw some more competitive ones in there just to see, I'm not really banking on MGH, but I figured I'd try it out! Thanks for the support! But yes, if it doesn't happen for me this application cycle, I'm definitely going to retake my GRE's (and better prepare for them this time around), get some more in field experience and apply again for the next cycle. P.S. DZ all the way, hey!
  4. Hello all, I'm back again! My GPA has risen since the last time I've posted and I'm FINALLY just about done applying to my long list of grad schools so I wanted to get everyone's opinions on whether or not I have a decent shot at acceptance or not and which schools that I've applied to are more likely to accept an applicant like me. I feel as though my letters of rec should be pretty strong and I feel that my essays were pretty decent. I'm really starting to get nervous during this long waiting game and don't want to get my hopes up if it's unrealistic stats are below!
  5. My stats are similar to yours, although your GPA is lightly higher! I am applying to about 13 schools that seemed more likely to accept a candidate like me to better by chances. Hopefully we'll get in somewhere!
  6. I know that research experience looks good on grad school applications, but how exactly can I get experience? Would volunteering to be a participant in a study look good or do you actually have to volunteer to assist the researchers with their study? Sorry, this may be a dumb question but I'm looking for ways to boost my resume/applications!
  7. We are in a similar boat! Although your stats are slightly higher than mine. I wish you the best of luck! I've recently decided to apply to GVSU as well. I hear it's much easier to be accepted to but I am still so worried!
  8. So I had CSDCAS enter my transcripts in for me and I know that it said it would finish entering them as soon as I submitted my application (or something like that?) but what does that mean? Does that mean that they will send out my most current transcripts as soon as I pay and apply to each school or are they already in the system as they are..I am asking just because I was curious if my CURRENT transcripts were in the system and what the schools will see OR if I were to submit after finishing this semester, if my new grades from this semester would be included..hopefully this makes sense! lol
  9. You post them into the "program materials" section because each program has different requirements
  10. Where are people with similar stats to me applying (my stats are below). I'm currently in the process of applying to.. (here goes the long list..lol) Edinboro U of PA Midwestern Univeristy, Illinois Bowling Green State U College of St Rose Ohio State U Ithaca College Salus University University of SC Adelphi University Calvin College MGH Institute of Health Professions East Stroudsberg U Jacksonville University California U of PA (just because this is where I currently go as an undergrad) Any suggestions on where else to apply with my stats? Any schools I should take off because of my low stats? Need suggestions people!
  11. Honestly, you're stats are quite impressive and much better than mine. Not to mention your EC's are awesome. From one sorority woman to another, I wish you the best of luck! If you don't get in anywhere, I honestly would be shocked. My stats are very low so therefore I'm applying to places that had acceptance stats similar to mine that I found through ASHA's edfind. (my GRE scores are trash compared to yours..I didn't take a class for them but I am also very bad at standardized tests) Where are you applying?
  12. I was not planning on retaking but I actually did a week or so ago and actually ended up doing worse in literally all areas..really not sure what it is with me and standardized tests, I'm just really terrible at them
  13. Okay, so I've been starting to write my letters of intent for my grad school applications and I find myself sort of stuck on what to write about. Some of the schools were easier and gave me a specific prompt and questions to go off of, whereas others just sort of say "insert letter of intent and/or purpose here". What is something appropriate to write about, exactly? I know to write about all of my accomplishments/honors/awards/experience/volunteer work/etc..but what specific "tone" should I give off? While writing, I find myself starting to sound like I'm basically begging for a chance (since my stats are so low) and giving excuses as to why my stats are so low. I don't want to come off as if I'm begging for them to let me in or sound whiney or that I'm just making excuses for myself or that I'm trying to make them pity me, lol. I also don't want to sound like I'm bragging about things that I've done and why I feel that they should let me in. I also talk a lot about how passionate I am for the field but I feel as though it sounds kind of "mushy" or made up (even though really it's not, I do really love this field!) UGH idk, someone please help! lol
  14. That is what I'm hoping for. Freshman/sophomore year is where I struggled the most, my last 60 GPA is much higher
  15. Hey girl, I feel you. Let me know how everything works out. Will you be applying this year?
  16. I did, I just took it within the last few weeks. Still waiting for my writing scores to come out.
  17. Welp..I took my GRE's and I did not too very good..stats are below..as you all know my GPA isn't very high either so that doesn't really help my chances. I'm just wondering..should I waste my time and money applying to SLP programs or just give up? I've been considering going to school to become a reading specialist as a back up plan and now I'm beginning to think that this my only hope. Any suggestions as to what I should do? No, I will not be taking the GRE's again..I refuse to pay another $200 to take a test that I have no time to study any further for and probably won't do much better on without proper preparation. Not to mention, it's cutting it too close to application deadlines, anyway. Any schools suggestions that may take a chance on me, given my GPA, GRE scores and ECs listed below??? I'm willing to relocate anywhere.
  18. I will be taking my GRE tomorrow!! I have a question about how to send the scores..I know that after finishing the test, you have the option to send your scores to 4 programs free of charge or to wait to send at a later date..say I decide that my scores are good enough and decide to send to 4 of the programs that I would like to apply to..am I still able to send my scores to the other schools that I would like to apply to at a later date for $25 each? This is probably a stupid question but I just wanted to make sure!
  19. I was under the impression that the CSDCAS portal was open for fall 2016 applications..but I cannot seem to find where to login/how to make an account? Someone help!
  20. Considering picking up a minor in psychology this year..would this give me a higher chance of getting into grad school?
  21. oh my gosh thank you this put me at ease! What schools did you apply to? where did you end up being accepted? Were your GRE scores good?
  22. Yes, I plan on doing extremely well next semester. Last semester I received a 3.5 and then this summer a 4.0 for my two classes that I'm taking, so my last 60 GPA shouldn't be too bad! (it's my freshman/sophomore year where I struggled more/was unmotivated) But yes I will be taking the GRE asap and I do have a GRE prep book that I look over every so often. I'm going to start studying more once these online summer classes end within the next few weeks.
  23. Hello everyone! So I'm about to be a senior this upcoming fall (scary) and I will start applying to grad schools probably at the end of fall semester to (hopefully) be accepted for Fall 2016. I was wondering what my chances are of getting in. My CURRENT stats for GPA and major GPA are below (I'm taking two summer classes currently that I'm going to receive A's in and still have another semester left to boost my GPA). Two of my major courses that I'm taking next semester are ones that I took previously that I received B-'s in (hopefully this looks good to grad schools and shows that I'm dedicated and determined..?) I'm also currently volunteering with the lead SLP at a local hospital in my area and currently have 50 hours in and I'm hoping to get even more before I go back to school! I also plan on going back next winter break to volunteer. All of my other extra curricular activities are listed below in my signature, as well. I have yet to take the GRE's but plan on doing so within the next few months. I know I've posted this question on here before but I was curious to see if anyone new who hasn't responded to my previous post had any advice for me on how to supplement my application anymore or what schools I should apply to that are more willing to accept a candidate like me (willing to relocate). Thanks!
  24. Okay this might be a stupid question but..how do LORs work? Do the professors that are writing one for you simply type something up and hand it to you to mail in with your application? Do they email it to the department chair of the schools your applying to? Are you able to see what they have written? I'm just slightly confused by how the process works and don't want to look like an idiot when asking my professors to write me LORs!
