When I try to view this, I can only see six results - it seems to cut off after USC, although I have to keep scrolling a while before I hit the bottom of the page. Is this a problem on my end, or have you only received six responses?

All best* Wouldn't want them to think you're being rude or anything.

This is what I said to Pitt to confirm they'd forgotten about me (Subject: Application Status Inquiry): Dear Ms. Rivet, My apologies for bothering you, but I have yet to hear anything about the status of my application to the Philosophy Department. My friends who also had applied to the program have already received their decisions - I'm assuming I've been rejected, but just wanted to confirm with you! With best wishes, Cecinestpasunphilosophe

Rejected by Fordham. Oh, the irony. Hell hath no fury like a department scorn'd.

Waitlisted at Notre Dame!!

I wish this-thread-me could see this-thread-me now. He'd be so happy.

Ancient people! Like my signature says, I did philosophy/classics during my undergrad, and am currently finishing a one-year MA in classics (with a focus on ancient philosophy). So far, I've been accepted to UofT and Chicago, and waitlisted at Berkeley. I've applied almost entirely to ancient philosophy specialist programs - I figured it was the best way to make my non-philosophy MA seem appealing to departments. I'm interested in the role that philosophical theology plays in the philosophical systems of antiquity, and this year I've also discovered a love for Aristotelean metaphysics. My writing sample was on the nature of epistēmē in the Meno. I argued that Plato, in the dialogue, only thinks we can have knowledge (strictly speaking) when a complete and coherent network of latent true propositions (present in the soul ante-natally) is made conscious through elenchus - to know any one thing, we must know everything, and know how all these things cohere with each other. From there, I argue that Plato reifies this latent innate network when he first posits the eidē in the Phaedo, and that the conclusion of the Meno (that virtue-as-knowledge is present by theia moira) ought to be taken quite seriously as an expression of the role Socrates and other philosophers play in human lives (as articulated in the Apology, Ion, and elsewhere).

The Marriage of Figaro. I'm not generally a fan of Mozart's work, but the libretto was just hilarious. A really enjoyable show!

Are you trying to say there's something wrong with my Birkensocks?

Admitted to Toronto! 2/3 of my positive notifications have now been received while at the opera. Correlation totally implies causation, right?

So, I only have one data-point here, but - Chicago told me 14 people were admitted this year (and they don't do a waitlist). There are 6 acceptances posted here, meaning that - based on this single example - we might guesstimate a 2:5 ratio of posted-vs-offered. So, if 5 people have posted, and even if a couple people will post tomorrow or later this evening... there's still hope (Good thing I'm a philosophy rather than a stats major, I know)

Every time I see this acronym, I read it as Yippee! in my head. 5/5, would read again.

Hope springs eternal in the human breast; Man never is, but always to be blessed: The soul, uneasy and confined from home, Rests and expatiates in a life to come. -
I often feel this way when writing term papers.

I'm still waiting to hear from them. Come on disappointment!

Would they have films in Kallipolis? That smacks of mimēsis to me...

You, sir/madame, are a good person.

Fantastic. I often try and argue that the Continental/Analytic divide is a false dichotomy precisely because of Catholicism - I think Catholic philosophy (which I know is a loaded term, and I want to use more broadly than either Gilson's narrow conception or the traditional understanding of Catholic philosophy = neo-Thomism) is a robust tradition that genuinely tries to bring together Analytic and Continental methods and thinkers. And it's a tradition that's able to bring together thinkers as diverse as Anscombe/Geach (the more 'traditional' 'Analytic' philosophers) and Merleau-Ponty. So I find it interesting to see you arguing that, rather than transcending the divide, Catholic philosophy was actually supplanted/?sublated? by the Continentals!

Pick either of two: Rank or Location

Each mortal thing does one thing and the same - deals out that being indoors each one dwells: Selves goes itself; myself it speaks and spells, crying what I do is me, for that I came! It's one of the few poems I can recite by heart. So beautiful. It's so refreshing to find someone else who not only knows who Hopkins is (a rare enough thing in analytic circles, unfortunately), but also recognizes the philosophical import of his thought! I've always wanted the chance to investigate Hopkins' notions of inscape and instress in an academic setting. I often worry that I'll be dreaming about this for a long time to come, though... -
