  1. Hey - I can speak to this since I'm currently in the two year program at U of T. They accept 140 students for the 2 year program and don't take the specialization into account. You don't actually choose your specialization until the end of first year. So if you wrote mental health and health on your application and decide throughout the program that you want to do gerontology, you totally could! Nothing is set in stone until you're midway through your practicum second semester. Hope this helps!
  2. I got into Laurier as well! I just got the email!!
  3. Grades in the last two years: 2 A+, 2 A-, 2 A, B+, B . I got an A- in research methods and an A in statistics. I did not do an honours thesis but happened to get amazing research experience over the past 5 years (graduated with a degree in Criminology with focus in Psychology). 1000 hours working doing research on mental health in the government. 3000 hours as a full time addictions counsellor at a residential youth treatment facility. 800 hours working on a research project at the same residential facility. 160 hours worth of volunteer - fundraising for treatment centre, support worker for women in the process of going through the court system and I facilitated an art program for youth I hope this helps! Any questions, let me know! Sending positive vibes your way
  4. No way!!! I got into Toronto for the 2 year program too! So pumped!! Last name starts with M Good luck everyone
  5. Fingers and toes crossed that we will find out next week then!
  6. Really?!? I feel the opposite. I feel like the site is down and my admission status has already been changed but I just can't see it hahahaha
  7. You log into SGS and under application summary, you will find your student number. You then go to the rosi website and put in your student number. the password is your birthday YYMMDD Hope this helps!!
  8. I remember reading somewhere that we will be notified via email! Probably for the best so we don't refresh the same page over and over again hahah
  9. Preach! I needed to read this. Heads up that they also sent out rejection letters for Carleton 2 year program. I got my email yesterday saying I was unsuccessful. I'm disappointed but trying not to let it get me down. I plan on eating some Ben and Jerry's today (maybe the whole jar?) #selfcare
  10. I think the Mental Health stream might be the most competitive at U of T based on past forum creeping lol
  11. Thanks Roxxx! I am waiting to hear back from Carleton, U of T and Laurier for the 2 year program. I have been working as an addiction counsellor for three years. I also have research experience with the government on mental health programs for police officers. I have a few volunteer roles too. I am hoping to stay local and get into Carleton. Fingers crossed. I know last year everyone found out on February 11th for both advanced standing and 2 year programs so it should be any day now. I know that Carleton got hacked in December so that may slow things down a bit. Only time will tell !
  12. Wondering if anyone has heard from Carleton yet? I applied for the two year program and they typically let people know around mid to late February based on what I have read in the forums from 2016/2015. I know it's not mid Feb just yet but I'm curious!
  13. Should I already have a ROSI account? Because I don't as far as I know. Was I supposed to have made one during the application process. My SGS says under review and I applied for the two year program Just kidding!! I figured it out - mine also says "no registration history" and I submitted my application almost a month before the deadline. I wouldn't worry about it! They're just being slow pokes
  14. I like! I talked about compassion fatigue in mental health workers and how to support them
  15. There might be a lot of quiet onlookers. That was me for years. I creeped the forum but didn't post ever hahah
  16. I'll share my experience too. This is my first time applying which I find nerve racking since I have no idea what to expect. I graduated with honours with a degree in Criminology and minor in Psychology. I got an A- in research methods and an A in statistics. I would say I have about... 4,000 hours working at a youth mental health and addiction centre. 90% of my time at the centre has been as an addiction counsellor. The other 10% was focused on supporting research projects on retention and flexible length of stay. I have about 1000 hours doing a placement with the RCMP. I did research on their mental health and rehabilitation programs. I have about 200 hours of volunteer work for a organization supporting women going through the legal system (connected them to different services). I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed that it's enough! GOOD LUCK TO ALL THOSE APPLYING!!
  17. Applying while completing your undergrad must have been super challenging. Glad you are applying again!! I am sure the added experience and boost in GPA will definitely help!! I actually just started contacting my references and started my applications (U of T, Laurier, Carleton, UBC). Trying my best to stay on top of things so I don't procrastinate and leave it for last minute haha
  18. Where is everyone debating on applying this year? This is my first year applying for my MSW!
  19. Question for those who got into U of T: Did any of you get in with a mark in research methods that is on the lower end? I got a B- in my research methods class and I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to re-take it. By December I'll have around 3000 hours of experience (1 - working as an addiction counsellor 2- research to change programs for rcmp officers mental health 3- research on retention strategies for the mental health and addiction centre i work for 4-working at the courthouse for women who come in contact with the law and need assistance finding community resources) and my 3000-4000 level courses puts me at about a B+ average. I am just wondering if my low research methods course will be my achilles heel. I didn't apply anywhere this year but I could re-take the research methods course at Carleton this summer. I just don't want to waste my time or money if I don't have to. I also plan on applying to York and Laurier. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
