It was an email from SE Missouri State's public history program that I did not apply to, and who clearly just bought my info from the College Board. You're killing me Smalls. Gambaosaka, given the pretty small numbers that have posted UNC Chapel Hill acceptances on thegradcafe.com in the past (2-3 per year) I am thinking that their outright offers of admission have already gone out. If I don't hear anything next week, I'm definitely chalking UNC in the rejection pile. I don't know how their waitlist works though.

No email, no change in application status on website, but it seems that UNC has a tendency to wait until mid to late March to break bad news to folks.

Congratulations to the U of Phoenix admit! That's the best news I've seen all day. I actually laughed out loud when I read that.

Josh, I'm right there with you. Having seen the waves of acceptances roll past, I'm ready to get my formal notifications, be done with it, and take the next steps. Whatever they are. Congratulations to all of the recent admits though! Boulder really is awesome, and despite Nashville's inability to handle snow it isn't too shabby of a place to live either.

Ellebe, I totally agree. I had a professor who was having a rough time with this side of academia and was starting to get bitter, but getting a TT job clearly made it all worth it. I know that I'm definitely going to keep this up til the wheels fall off, but thank goodness that I'm not in it for the money.

I knew that I'd been spending too much time looking at the results page when I had a dream last week that I got into Northwestern. I didn't even apply there, which made it even better to get in. Good luck to everyone this week!

There's a post from last Thursday that indicates that it will be this week at the very least. Does anyone know if they notify admits and rejections simultaneously or do it in waves?

Ellebe - I know exactly how you feel, and I'm very much in the same boat, but don't count UVA completely out. They send a few of the best fellowships and do their big wave later. Also do you know of any decent cheap hotels near Kew? I've got to hit up the archives soon.

Gambaosaka: Chapel Hill is a fantastic place. I've visited several times for research and many more to see friends. In addition the department at UNC has a fantastic working relationship with the one at Duke which expands the pool of mentors and potential committee members.

Even on such a surprisingly slow day for notifications, thegradcafe.com has completely eclipsed Facebook's capacity as a productivity destroying time suck. In all honesty though, I don't think the company could be much better. Thanks to everyone for keeping things so positive.

Any guesses as to who notifies today?

I keep telling myself that all of the waiting will be over in just a few weeks, but I'm having trouble believing it. hopefully next week will yield results of some kind so I can get cracking on my dissertation with a clear head. Good luck everyone! Don't let the man get you down.

I think that rejections usually come a week later

Marte108 I absolutely agree with that assessment. I think I had Emory on the brain while I was looking at old results for Penn state, where I also failed to get an interview. Probably time to dust off the old resume just in case.
