Looks like Emory normally sends out admits on Fridays. Fingers crossed, big money big money no whammy!

Congrats! I appreciate the info about apply Web. I had honestly started to think that I was compulsively checking my applyweb applications for no good reason. May the completely futile attempt to gain admission by logging in to the application to check on its status more than any other candidate continue!

Pretty sure that this is the Internet telling me to chill out and go do something else for a while. I'm going to laugh if it turns out to be an accidental denial of service attack caused by legions of aspiring grad students all clicking the refresh button too often.

Congratulations to the St.Louis admit!

Congratulations Chiqui! One of my professors who is ABD is at Rochester now wrapping up her dissertation and absolutely loves it.

Well played JTE... Well played...

I'd lose my tiny little sleep deprived mind, take a nap, buy a bottle of single malt, and try to go 24 hours without obsessively checking this feed (after finally discovering what the magical and mysterious Submit Results button is all about of course).

Penn looks like they normally notify in the 3rd week of February or a little later, although for 2012 they sent out acceptances around this time. I don't have my hopes particularly high, but if this website has taught me anything, it's that the past is not the best predictor of the future... as a historian I'm not sure how to feel about that. Good luck everyone!

I didn't interview for Emory either. It'll just be a load off to put the nail in the coffin on at least one application.
-
I think that there's a little more than a snowball's chance that Emory notifies tomorrow. Any other opinions/predictions?

Wish I had more upvotes for this.

Congratulations to the UVA admit!

I'm actually an American studying in Glasgow. A few in my cohort are applying to Phd programmes here in the UK which seems to be its own brand of madness. The impression I'm getting is that admissions and funding are more separated here.
-
Any guesses on the next wave of admits/rejections? Best of luck to you as well Gambaosaka1. I thought the time difference for news was rough being in the UK,but I can't even imagine how it works in Tokyo. Do you get any sleep at all between trying to function like a normal human being and obsessively checking this site like the rest of us?

I think that UNC is probably the best fit because of its strengths in Civil War, Southern, and military history. UNC also has Joe Glatthaar, but UVA and Penn also have some real heavy hitters in Gary Gallagher and Steve Hahn. At no point in this process have I ever thought that I'd get into more than one place. If I did, I have no idea how I'd decide.
-
Gambaosaka1, I haven't heard anything at all from UNC, and I don't recall seeing much interview stuff posted in previous cycles. I think the fact that you got an interview is about as good of a sign as anyone will get before they actually start to admit.
-
Has anyone taken a look at the Jefferson Scholarship at UVA? My GRE score is hot garbage so I never even got my hopes up, but congratulations to the UVA admit (from a couple days ago) $35k as a stipend is nothing to sneeze at.
-
I'm actually still waiting for my second marker notes for an essay from last semester. It's looking like if I do manage to get in anywhere this cycle that I won't have an official GPA to send in.

The only place I've applied to that I think might have a chance of notifying this afternoon would be Virginia. I think the rest won't post anything until the week after next, but I would be very happy to be completely wrong about that. Either way, it's beer:30 in Scotland. Cheers!
-
While I'd like to think that I'm going to hear something tomorrow, I'm pretty sure that the week after next is gonna be where it's at for most of the places I applied to. No matter how much I actually believe that, I can't seem to quit checking the results at least once an hour. I think JTE is on to something with Fridays though, so good luck tomorrow everyone!

The spam emails from for profit grad schools with the words "admissions office" in the subject line are absolutely killing me this week.
-
Congratulations Chiqui74!
-
I don't know how much more we'll hear from Virginia for a bit. Some fellowship / scholarship recipients appear to get notified prior to the bulk of the admits. At least that's what the website says, and what I keep trying to convince myself of.

nom- I'd send a very short 'thank you for your interest in my application ' type email. Nothing over 5 sentences and make it look professional. That way you're reminding them of your application without sounding like you are asking for something
