@jnp809 Sorry to hear about the rejection. Which schools are you still waiting on? And no word yet from UCSD for me. Saw some more notifications on MFA Draft and gradcafe results. Wondering if UCSD is doing waves of notifications? Anyone have any experience with them?
-
@lrb0192 Thays awesome! What!!!!!! Go you!
-
Congrats @esfg1! Acceptance or not, that's awesome and you should be proud.
-
Checked my Yale status. Rejected. Said nice things about my writing but encouraged me to get more professional experience. So sort of makes sense since I'm aware I don't have that many productions under my belt. Figured as much

@jnp809 Right on the money. Those schools typically decide in mid-late March. I know I'm still waiting to hear from iowa, Ohio, Catholic and UCSD. Indiana is invite only this year - emailed Peter, the chair at Indiana, about the process this year and haven't heard back so... who knows. and im interpreting the UCSD info the same way. Here's to March and good news and congratulations to all accepted!

@lrb0192 that's so awesome. Fingers crossed. I would love to know more of what you talked about. Erik Ehn is such an interesting dude. @CocoBeans i feel you. Same situation. Have you emailed or called them? I would love for someone else to give them a call to see what they have to say since I rang them and they didn't respond to my voicemail. Although I'm assuming quite a bit is going on behind the scenes. And I'm assuming we are second tier right now as well.

Congrats to the Yale people. Please let us know how it goes and the same to you @CocoBeans, let us know how the NYU interview went.
-
@lrb0192 Going to jump on the congratulations train.... Congrats! Keep us updated. and yes. UCSD should refund if they don't accept
-
@lrb0192 Congrats on the interview! What's the funding situation like?
-
@esfg1 @lrb0192 Wanted to show solidarity. Still haven't heard anything either. Gradcafe results and MFA Draft have no reports of finalists. Who knows.
-
@jnp809 thank you! I'll check there. Glad the news is starting to trickle out finally.

For those who got a Yale rejection, did you see the decision on the Apply Drama page where you can see application materials? I was rejected last year and didn't get an email and I can't remember where the decision went because my Apply Drama page doesn't show the decision from last year.
-
Got my Michener rejection - didn't get an email, just checked the portal.
-
@andrea907 That's fantastic! Congratulations! I met with some people from SCAD years ago and they seemed lovely. Do you know the funding is like? I can't seem to find it on their website. @nerve i do not. I believe it was last year that some people on this board interviewed there and I feel like a number was discussed. I can assume it's quite a few. They don't release that information from what I can tell.
-
You never know. Don't shut the door just yet. As for Michener, I don't think that's embarrassing. I'm applying to programs I applied to for two years straight and have been rejected two times from them. That's part of it some times. I have no idea what's going to happen in the next two months and neither do you. Really, my friend, who knows.

So, they are doing waves for rejections and notifications. First round of fiction rejections went out a week and a half ago. However, in this case, the writer was a playwright. As for whether they stagger interviews or not... I don't know. This is my first year applying to Michener. I do know it seems rejections go out within the first two weeks of February from gradcafe history.

MFA Draft is a Facebook group, a multi-disciplinary group for prospective MFA students, also home to MFA graduates. People share updates, samples, answer questions, etc. Not too many playwrights in there.
-
Michener is sending out interview requests apparently. Someone on MFA Draft on Facebook posted about it. So keep an eye out. And I'm trying to be an adult and rein in the saltiness as I live in Austin and don't want to move again. And it's a great program. Oh well. Best of luck.
-
@jnp809 Reach out to Peter, the chair, and let him know the situation and see if maybe that fee can be waived for next year if you decide to apply again or ask for a refund or wait - I would imagine you'll get an email stating the situation.
-
@las242 i could give you my notification dates but of course it varies so I'm putting a link in here to the gradcafe's user reported statistics. It'll give you a good idea. Playwriting Notifications Will say UCLA is the worst with notifications. Didn't get my notification until May. Yale can also be bad. Sometimes their system goofs and you don't get an email. Helps to check that status page. That's how I found out last year. Same for Michener from what I understand. Also also also many departments will post their notification timelines on their website. All the best.

Been a while... Right there with you guys. Applied to UT, Michener, Yale, Catholic, Iowa, UCSD and finishing up Ohio and Southern Illinois (maybe). Received positive feedback from Yale last year and was a finalist at Indiana last year but they're doing invite only this year and the chair has been very upfront with what he's looking for this year, so maybe next year if it doesn't work out. It's a changing department - what can you do? Have had a great rapport with the chair, though, so much so he's a reference of mine now. Strange how it works out. As to whether, I've heard anything... no. Michener is going through rejections, sending out fiction ones first. Typically Michener in February, then the rest of the programs from what I have gathered All the best.
-
Congratulations @guacthisway! Hope everyone is doing well. I have some somewhat related MFA news. I'm on the shortlist for the Horizon Theatre in Atlanta's playwriting apprenticeship and have an interview with the Shakespeare Theatre Company in DC for their artistic fellow position. Still waiting on Southern Illinois but I've written it off for the most part. Again, congrats to everyone going into a program in the fall. I'd love to hear how everything shakes out.
-
@jnp809 Getting into Columbia is great and you should be proud. This coming application season will be my third and if it doesn't shake out, I'll take a break. I've found writing while preparing for applications messes with my writing sense - I almost end up writing with a goal in mind instead of writing because it makes me happy. To you, I'd say... keep doing it and don't give up, but also maybe a year off would help? Maybe you'll discover things, both personally and in your work? Who knows? @newengland1 I know one of the playwrights who goes to Ohio. I've heard only positive things. Let us know where the wind takes you. Glad to hear you have options
-
Waiting on one school, looks like I'll be doing it again next year then taking a break if it doesn't work out. Maybe a smaller pool next year. Regardless, congratulations to everyone going where they want to.

Just realized I received a Yale rejection in February but was never sent an email. It was complimentary compared to last year's for whatever it's worth - not sure if it's a boilerplate rejection or not. Anyway, Indiana is still up in the air. Those applying next year, I recommend you check out the head and his writing. If you're looking for a program that allows you to teach right off the bat with a lot of one on one time... maybe it's worth a look.
