  1. Congratulations @Boxedwine!
  2. Re: Iowa Has anyone reached out to faculty at the program about finalists/interviews? Bryon Winn, the director of theatre there, works at the theatre where I'm currently interning. He picks the directing MFAs, but he might know about playwriting... I could see where they are on deliberations.
  3. Interview went well, I think. I will know by the end of the week. I was also told even if I wasn't accepted, it wasn't a rejection because slots often go to other finalists, for whatever reason. But I did find out the program was fully funded with a 16K stipend, which is given due to an assistantship (<20 hour work week). Because they accept one person a year, the whole track is based around the playwright's needs. Still waiting on Iowa and UCLA. I'm assuming no Ohio based on the lack of contact.
  4. Have my first phone interview, Indiana, on Sunday. so nervous and excited. It's a very small program, so I'm expecting it would be a lot of one and one. Will update later
  5. Still radio silence on my end. Congrats @newengland1 I've only heard good things about the program. I know the director of Iowa's theatre program. Depending on the week, I could ask and see how their application process is going.
  6. Thanks for the information. A little nerve wracking but good to hear. And congratulations! I would love to know more about that program at Arizona.
  7. So many congratulations to give... Congratulations, jamesprongs101 and The Walter Before. Very happy for you two!
  8. Hey! Congratulations, newengland1! That's fantastic. So, so great to hear.
  9. Just got a mass email from Erik Ehn. Much more thorough and generous than the rejection from the application site.
  10. Haven't heard from Ohio or Iowa, either. Still waiting on UCLA and Indiana as well.
  11. Yeah, mine was. Very short compared to Erik's last year
  12. Got my rejection from Brown. Oh well. Still waiting on other schools.
  13. Best of luck you guys. You'll have to tell us all about it. Cheers.
  14. Congrats to everyone on the interviews. Wishing you all the best.
  15. Boxedwine, Thanks for the update on UCSD. It's always reassuring to hear a program is interested in you as a person as well as an artist. And sorry to hear about O'Neill, but the note sounds good. Still waiting on Iowa, Yale, Brown, UCLA, Iowa, UCSD (if that's still a thing). Ohio goes out tomorrow, but they were pretty fast last year with locking everything down.
  16. Congrats to everyone on the interviews. UCSD and Austin, that's awesome. Boxedwine, I'd love to hear more about the interview.
  17. Re: Boxedwine, I agree. I'd love to hear whenever anyone else hears, which is really the common practice from my presence here last year. And no nerves so far. I've completely spaced on the notification timeline from last year. I'm still finishing up my last two applications so my focus is still a little shifted. Ohio and Southern Illinois, whose head is apparently a great guy based on the professors I know who know him. If if it doesn't shake out this year, I imagine I'll wait another year before applying and see if I can get some more work produced. Doing 8 applications while an intern is brutal, brutal stuff.
  18. First two applications are leaving this week, Yale and UCLA. So stoked the list is growing smaller. Does anyone have information on Northwestern's Dramatic Writing program (I think that's what it is, it's a multi-focus program)? Or Southern Illinois University? I haven't found much about either - their respective websites are pretty vague. I'm thinking I might scratch Northwestern anyway due to their lack of assistance. Anyway, good luck to everyone applying!
  19. Lavendercloud, So glad you're enjoying Ohio. It sounds like it's a great program, just based on those tidbits. And the location is good to hear. I just had coffee with an actor from NY and he went on and on about how great the theatre in Chicago is. Second, that bit about the LOR is interesting. Almost makes me want to strike Yale off my list for applications this year. The list has gotten a little longer: Brown, Ohio, Iowa, UC San Diego, UCLA, USC, Southern Illinois University, and (maybe) Yale. In regards to Iowa, at the internship I'm at, I'm the project coordinator for an event we do with Iowa. I'll also be meeting the Iowa theatre head next month. Thank you again Lavendercloud with the internship help. Kad790, those are some great laurels and a great writing project. I'm still finishing two plays I started in March. If you go back through the archives here, you'll see the most stated application requirements: good writing, LOR, personal statement, resume. I've known people to get into grad school right out of undergrad - but having experience helps more than anything. And I completely agree with Lavendercloud about the money. I'm not applying to schools in NY because of money. I have undergrad debt and I can't see myself adding more when other programs would pay for me.
  20. @Idca Everyone is probably going to give you a different answer to that to some degree. I can say, for me, I wish I was encouraged to apply to internships before grad school. This helps for a multitude of reasons: you get something for your resume, perhaps a new reference in the professional world, and depending on the theatre, space for a production of your own. Most importantly, however, is writing as you are probably aware. I didn't get into grad school this year, got a job at a book store and applied for internships, writing plays while doing so. Thankfully, I got an internship with Portland Stage (hat tip to Lavendercloud). I've never been published or had a work out on outside of my undergraduate institution. I'm sure others will give you more elaborate help than that considering I'm new to post undergrad life and applying to grad school. Best.
  21. @owlwhale1 - have you gone through the forum? I believe some users have posted about their interviews. As someone not having gone through the process, that's the most help I can give currently. Congratulations.
  22. Does anyone know anything about Center Stage's Hot Desk Playwright Residency? I was recently offered the position but might have to turn in down due to financial obligations, but I wanted to know if anyone had any insight into the residency?
  23. You'll have to tell us how it is, annabananaphone. That's awesome. Sorry to hear about the Juliard rejections. That's the worst. @theotherlily - thanks. That's what I thought. Trying to get everything together before my internship starts in the fall
  24. Sorry to hear about the rejections. Does anyone have a set procedure for reapplying? I know it varies on schools but do you send in two new plays? @lavendercloud Your friend got in touch with me. She's been a great help. Thank you!
  25. @smooshie There's a book called the sequence approach to screenwriting (something like that). It was what we read in my undergrad screenwriting classes. I would check it out if you haven't. @lavendercloud Thanks! I have until April 24 to decide. I'd be torn getting into both theatres. They both have such good programs/festivals for playwrights.
