  1. I think this dependes on your focus. UCSD is very reputed for its training on sociology of culture. To be honest, I dont know much about Albany to compare, but I think it all comes down to subfield.
  2. I called Harvard and they said that all acceptances have been sent.
  3. Actually, you're exatcly right. I heard from POI that they would be pickier this year because of last year's large cohort.
  4. Would anyone claim the Notre Dame waitlisting? Did you refeive an e-mail?
  5. There have been rejections, one of which posted that the e-mail read: "The Graduate Admissions Committee recently reviewed applications to the graduate program in Sociology at Notre Dame and created a shortlist of prospective candidates based on academic record, experience, and fit with our program. We regret to inform you that you were not selected as one of those candidates..." This makes me wonder what is the situation for those of us not contacted at all.
  6. I'm currently a MAPSS student, and I'm all for the program, specially if you are considering a PhD after. If the PhD is really your goal, my advice is to choose a MA program that will better get you there. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions.
  7. For those recommended to MAPSS, who is accepting the offer?
  8. It seems that the MA acceptances in Columbia are only for people that were rejected from the PhD directly to the MA. There are 6 or 7 in the results, not counting people that are not around here. I wonder how many spots they have for the M.A. Does anyone know?
  9. For those who received MA acceptances from Columbia: have you heard anything at all before that?
  10. Breaks, thanks for your response. But yeah, that's what I meant to say: low verbal, low GPA, but good research experience and pubs. What I am wondering right now if the big problem is not having a MA or the GRE and GPA grades. At this point my options are the Master programs. Fingers crossed.
  11. I'm in the same boat. I'm trying to understand why I got rejected by all of the PhD programs I have applied for. My GRE is 157/157, and my undergrad GPA is not great, but that is because I have done a lot of relevant research in my undergraduate years, which have resulted in two co-authored books and some presentations (experience that I thought would balance the GPA and verbal grade). I feel that the LOR's and SOP's were also strong. I thought that the professional experience would weight on my side. Well, now I am down to the lack of a good M.A (seems like people that got accepted to top 10 schools had one, right?) and will try to enhance the GRE. Any other thoughts? Thanks for the help.
  12. It's a standard rejection letter. It just said that the MA decisions will be made later.
  13. In mine, by the middle of the page there is a "Status Update", where the rejection letter is. But I guess you would have received an e-mail about it.
  14. Rejection e-mail from Columbia. It said that the MA decisions will come out later.
  15. Yeah, it doesn't seem like the emails were sent, since there are only 3 acceptances by phone in the results. I am trying to call them for while, but there is no answer.
  16. Guys, I am a little confused about Columbia. There are only 3 admits here by phone, did anyone get a rejection/admission e-mail? Doens't seem like they have sent all admissions yet. And how about for their masters? Decisions are later?
  17. Would they call international students (not in the U.S)?
