  1. Thanks! Anyone else heard anything from hopkins yet?
  2. Congrats!! I am totally considering the offer very seriously. Will know for sure in a week or so when I have heard back from other schools. I am thrilled about this. Good luck everyone (:
  3. I posted that. So, its quite real (:
  4. Did you hear anything about how many ppl have been admitted? And was everyone (who have been accepted) also interviewed? Congrats to you! (: Who are you looking to work with?
  5. Who all got wait listed at Rutgers? I got a wait-list email today. And does anyone know how many acceptances there have been?
  6. There were interviews??
  7. So its over for those of us who haven't heard as yet? *sound of my heart breaking*
  8. I haven't heard anything as yet either. Waiting, waiting, waiting. And losing a lil hope too.
  9. I think if you haven't heard from Berkeley yet, you can pretty much cross it out from your list. If you want to be sure, just call or email Ned. I emailed him and he immediately told me that I didnt make it (: One less school to worry about for me. He said that they are at the "absolute end of the decision process" and that we will get a short automated email from the grad office soon.
  10. Does anyone know if Boston U has made all its offers already or have they just started?
  11. Yup, I NEED to see it in writing - and SOON - that I have been rejected I can't "move on"!
  12. So, someone got an acceptance email from UCB - it comes up in the results search. Guess this means my rejection email will be here soon enough :s
  13. Just private messaged you. I'd rather bore one person with the details than all the people who are watching this topic (:
  14. Yup, Gigsed, I have applied to Rutgers as well. In fact from your list of schools, I have also applied to Boston and NYU. I didn't actually apply to UC Irvine because Irvine does not make much sense for my partner's future career. So I have had to hit the "big cities". Let me know if you have any other questions about Irvine -- especially when you plan your trip here or are making your final decision. I know that many people would have reservations about living in O.C. - I had huge issues when I was moving here from Phialdelphia -- but in only four months, the place has somwhat grown on me. And yes, the department is wonderful. They are known to hire the most promising young scholars so you would be working with people who are doing "cutting-edge" research in Anthropology. There is also the Center of Ethnography here that George Marcus runs. Of course, you have lots of really good schools in your list so the decision would have to be comparative. And yes, compared to UK and Europe, America will seem very cheap to you no matter where you go!
  15. Gigsed, I moved to Irvine around 3-4 months ago. The PT thing is SO TRUE. I, too, am a completely walking/biking kinda person so it has been hard to adjust to always having to drive ( a lot of which is on highways- ugh). The area has a lot of great biking trails but biking is more of a leisure thing here than getting around since distances are pretty long. Having said that, the campus area is nice and I have seen a lot of students biking around there. Student housing, at least from the outside, looks pretty good and there are quite a few grocery and eating options within the campus. I have been to the UCI library a few times and its pretty okay. As for reputation, UCI Anthro is really one of the up and coming departments in the US. My professors at UPenn all said this same thing when I was moving out here and wanted to know about the department. The weather is absolutely lovely here all year round - as you MUST have heard already. This also means relatively low living costs as far as heating and electricity bills are concerned but of course, this is one of the most expensive areas to live in otherwise (high sales tax, not many cheap eating options although enough to survive, transportation costs etc). That is my general impression of the city so far. Congrats on being accepted and good luck with the rest of the schools! (:
