Ayyo, according to the GSAS website, they start notifying in mid-march, but in terms of how many students they'd be looking to accept, I think that all depends on each individual department, no? I may be wrong, but saw that no one had responded yet. Don't worry, you're not alone! I still haven't heard from any of the programs I applied to. In bocca al lupo!

Does anyone know when NYU plans to notify acceptances, or what size cohort is sleighted for this year?

I read somewhere that someone had been contacted by a potential advisor.

Where did you find the information about the decisions date? I am searching their web and can't find a thing about it.

I do hope they send their results many other programs of NYU have already announced their admittances, I am checking the results page every 5 minutes now...

:(

Pawqara, sorry for the brutishness, but what "results page" are you referring to? Can you share the link? Also, I emailed the graduate secretary in the department and the department administrator said that she thinks that the department is "in the process" of communicating their decisions, but said that she's not the expert. And then she advised that I email the grad secretary (which I did). I'm waiting for her reply.

From what I understand, archaeology at least has a short list. A friend of mine got a call last week from a potential adviser asking if accepted, if he would attend. My guess is people are going to start hearing back within the next week or two. Not sure about Bio or Cultural though.

Yes, I just got an an email reply from the Graduate Sec. who said that applicants would be notified of their status in the first or second week of March.

Oh... I can't wait that long... I am so nervous now, getting stressed by any new email message in my inbox, I can't live like this for two more weeks. Ugh!

I just saw on the results page a person that was accepted by an email from his/her POI. So they must already know something!

I talked with Tracey yesterday, and she said that acceptances will be notified until the end of the first week of March, and rejections the second week.

I'm already preparing myself for a big dissapointment, I think that potential candidates have been contacted by their potential advisors and that only formal acceptances are to come. Let's hope I'm wrong!

I do maintain hope since only Cultural Anthropology has been posted... and I am applying for Bio Anthr.

But it is not good sign my potential advisor has not replied to my last email (but did updated his facebook profile!).

Damn, NYU is my perfect place :(

Just had an informal admit to the Bio Anth department - stunned and happy. Anybody else?

Fingers crossed for you all too...

Congratulations, Indianacat. Good one. Did you hear via phone or email? Any word on whether all acceptances have been notified by now?

Thank you, Pangmao. Afraid I don't know specifics. It was an email from potential advisor I had a phone interview with, so I suppose admits will come out gradually from various faculty informally, with formal notifications next week. There is an open house meet up scheduled towards the end of March.

Congratulations!! You can breathe and be happy now :)

I am, in the other hand, waitlisted...

"...let you know informally that you are among a small group of top-ranked candidates for which we do not have financial aid available to admit you in the first round of offers"

I received an email where they told me almost 400 people applied (the highest amount ever), and they had to cut 20% the offers due to the crisis, and therefore offered only 11 positions (which I guess have been informed during the day). Oh, and that final decisions on my app would be made by the end of March.

Buah!

wow..even being waitlisted is impressive!

was the email a generic email to everyone who has been waitlisted?

that means i didn't even get waitlisted then..

sigh..

I didn't look like a generic email, it was too nice and personalized for that (or just me trying to feel special...)

One more month of limbo.

was the email written by a professor or a department secretary?

i wonder if i should wait for the waitlist email...

i am so sad.

The email was from Terry Harrison, Chair of the Admissions Committee, Department of Anthropology

Don't be sad. I think you should wait a couple of days, if nothing, then email asking.

I sympathize. I got the same email, waitlisted for the second year in a row. And I got the exact same email, word for word, from them last year with the exception of it saying 12 positions last year. So it doesn't sound like things are all that different this year, they've always had a very small number of admissions. I'm not worried about it much, I'm accepting an offer from Chicago, but frustrating all the same since I waited a whole year to start grad school so I could try for them again. Que sera!

  • 2 weeks later...

Has anyone received an official rejection notice from NYU's anthropology department yet? I keep hearing this little voice in the back of my brain saying, "well you haven't received anything yet..." but I feel like it's hopeless! Just let a girl know!
