  1. Hi! I saw that one (or two, not sure if it was a duplicate) received offers. Anyone know if they're done notifying accepted candidates? Waitlist? Thanks everyone (and best of luck to those of us still waiting)!
  2. Hi folks. Wondering if anyone knows more about the nyu notification/decision process for cultural anthropology applicants? I read previous posts and resigned myself to the idea of a rejection. However, now that I've seen a slew of rejections on the results page and I haven't received anything, I'm allowing a little optimism to seap through. ANY information that you might share, greatly appreciated. Thanks! (And hang in there, everyone!)
  3. Hi fellow applicants, I received an email that doesn't look mysterious, on the face of it, but I think is. The academic coordinator sent me an email entitled "Incomplete Application Reminder" asking me for research interests and regional areas of focus separately from my Statement of Purpose (which it says in the email, is certainly included in my Statement). They're asking for this at my "earliest convenience". Anyone else get this email? It's a bit strange both b/c it seems repetitive and also because I confirmed with them that my application is, indeed, complete. Thoughts appreciated. Good luck to all-- this is certainly a difficult process.
  4. Hi all, I just received an email (after being rejected from NYU's Ph.D. program in Anthropology) saying, "Based on an evaluation by the Dean’s Office of your recent application to the Graduate School of Arts and Science, you have been selected as a possible candidate for admission to the John W. Draper Interdisciplinary Master’s Program in Humanities and Social Thought". Did anyone else receive this email? Does anyone know anything about the program from the inside? How is the mentoring? The level of coursework? Are there increased chances for getting into a Ph.D. program later on? Any thoughts, wisdom, etc. very, very much appreciated. Thanks!
  5. got my official rejection.
  6. Toni, Many thanks for your reply. May I ask, do you know how they extend offers? Do you know if they have sent out rejections yet?
  7. Hi all, Saw two accepts via postal service on the results search and nothing else- back in the middle of February. Has anyone heard anything else? If so, what and how? Information greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  8. Taiwanadian, thank you very much. I would like to invite others to write on rejections, frustrations, hopes, strategies, let's make this forum a place for a wider variety of voices than just those with multiple, fully-funded offers (congrats to them, no hard feelings!)
  9. St. Jude and Hip2triangle- thank you for your replies. Going for a Ph.D. is one of those few things in my life that I can point to and say, "THAT'S what I want." And frankly, the fact that it's not panning out after all the work that I (and all of us, I know...) have put into positioning myself favorably is just heartbreaking. And, as you said, St. Jude, it isn't a personal statement of ability and that is what, for me, makes it so hard. I believe in my heart of hearts that I can be a good scholar, that it is fitting for my skills and who I am, and this just makes this process seem socially Darwinist and random (I know that they don't go together, really, but we're in the pit of despair, right?) Anyway, I'm trying to keep perspective, but it's still painful. I also feel like, as a woman who is approaching child-bearing years and wants to have kids, the longer you push this off, the longer the biological clock ticks...etc., etc., we're all acquainted with gender and workforce issues. Read between the lines.
  10. Could be that I'm the saddest case yet- rejected from 5 schools, 2 I haven't heard from but have already notified accepts, 1 in the process of notifying (and nada) and four others that I'm waiting on. My advisor is stumped- s/he says that there must be something "wrong" with my application as s/he thinks I should have gotten into the schools I was rejected from. So from her/his perspective all is lost (even with those I'm waiting on), which is really really depressing. I seriously don't know what I'm going to do with myself next year. I'm hoping that a string of rejections doesn't necessarily forecast gray skies ahead. Keep your chins up everyone.
  11. No "view decision" link in my app page and I called on Tuesday (the 23rd) and she said that at that very moment she was giving decisions to the admissions department and that everyone will find out together. What's your (plural) take on no "view decision" link? Has anyone received a rejection? Responses greatly appreciated...
  12. I know, it really is disappointing. She didn't specify re: other sub-fields, sorry. You can always call. She's quite nice.
  13. Pawqara, sorry for the brutishness, but what "results page" are you referring to? Can you share the link? Also, I emailed the graduate secretary in the department and the department administrator said that she thinks that the department is "in the process" of communicating their decisions, but said that she's not the expert. And then she advised that I email the grad secretary (which I did). I'm waiting for her reply.
  14. The graduate admissions person there said that they are still deliberating and that both acceptances and denials will be notified in another 2 weeks.
  15. I just spoke with the Graduate Program Administrator who told me that all applicants who were accepted have already been called. She said, however; that those who are waitlisted haven't been and they (along with those denied admission) will have to wait for the snail mail (yes, you read correctly) letter that will go out, "in the next couple of weeks."
  16. hi all anxious applicants out there. i just called chicago anthropology and the admissions person told me that it is indeed correct that those who were offered admission OR waitlisted at university of chicago were already informally notified by the department.
