  1. Can I just send some major thanks to all of you who commented on here? I've been feeling very imposter-y for the past 6 months (I'm on a Fulbright scholarship right now. Nothing like being surrounded by some of those people to make you feel truly insufficient. Wow.) Some of your comments have literally made me cry tears of relief. I'm feeling very validated right now. Best wishes to anyone else going through those emotions. I can only imagine they'll continue to come and go throughout the life of academia.
  2. Ahh! To everyone going to SEPA-- have fun!! I presented at SEPA when it was in Atlanta and Nashville (can't remember the years, at the minute) and both were great!
  3. I'm more on the wine with a healthy side of pasta end of things these days... But I feel you on that.
  4. Well. I just accidentally ate a whole party-sized bag of Doritos in one sitting. Again.
  5. Just checking in again: Any news from Harvard anywhere? Has anyone else applied to their Developmental program?
  6. Hellooo! Current UK Fulbrighter here. Some of us got our interview invites WAY later than the others last year (me). Also, they sent out a few of the final notifications (definitely Cambridge and possibly a few others) much later than the others. Try not to worry too much! Although I do think they interview for all positions. To the person worried about the typos--- don't worry. I found a few weird typos in mine later on, too. If you don't get it once you've gotten past the recommendation round, it will purely be because another candidate stood out a little more. At this point it's all how you weigh against the other 2 or 3 people left competing for the same spot. They really do emphasize the cultural exchange part. However, one of my main elements of cultural exchange I focused on was the British supervisor I really wanted to work with. So specificity of topic could definitely be considered relevant. To the person who they asked about other Fulbrights: Unless you really wouldn't accept the other one... Say YES! This happened to one of my friends who is currently a Fulbrighter during his interview... And he said he would be interested but would have to look into the other program. And he got the fulbright to the alternative they recommended-- and I'm pretty sure he loved it (Hey, person who got this one-- if you're still checking GradCafe, maybe you can help this person out!) Advice to potential UK Fulbrighters-- Start saving money NOW if you can...Especially if you are applying for London grants. I know some people in London know have missed some opportunities to travel for financial reasons. It is a very expensive city. Everyone else, your grant may be sufficient, but sometimes there are banking delays, so I really recommend having some backup funds, as well. One more thing: If you are interviewing, do not be put off if they don't respond to anything you say!!! I've spoken to nearly all the current UK Fulbrighters (Seriously... Once you meet other candidates, you'll really understand why it's been so competitive... And to imagine that there's an alternate who was a close second for each award, too... There are some really amazing people out there. It's been humbling to meet them), and everyone has mentioned that the interviewers said literally NOTHING in response to their answers in the interview. They're all really, really lovely in person, though! I know this sounds impossible... But if you can help it, don't obsess over dates where things happened in the past. They pass on info as soon as they know. They are waiting from feedback from several different sources, often including the schools, which need to confirm that they are capable of hosting your proposed project if you are selected. Try to put your mind at ease, work out a backup plan, but also have some fun planning what you would do if you were there. Feel free to message me!!!!
  7. Has anyone heard from Harvard (specifically developmental, but really anything)... I know they usually interview later than other programs, but I just have to make sure. Also, has anyone heard from FSU Developmental?
  8. Hi! Congrats on all the interview invites! Was your program at UIUC CogPsy or CN? If it is CogPsy, would you mind sharing (here or PM) your poi and how you received the invite? (Department or poi, email or call, etc) thanks!!
  9. No, no! Don't take it that way. What "che" means is that they've basically already picked their candidate before the interview, but they interview more than just that one person "just in case." So basically, if the other person WOULD have bombed their interview, you would've gotten it. Which means you were REALLY close.
  10. Hi everyone! Just wanted to check in and say thank you to everyone for being an awesome community. Good luck to those of you still waiting, those choosing other future plans, and those preparing to leave for their Fulbright year in a few months! <3
  11. Happy Monday everyone! Good luck this week! Wishing you all the best.
  12. Hey! UK Fulbrighters, I created a Facebook group! Message me your email address and I'll invite you!
  13. If that was intentional, that was very unkind. I got a pit in my stomach just looking at that. This is has been such a great resource over the years...Let's hope it was an accident or a fluke and that nobody would feel the need to destroy something we've all been working on for months. Fortunately, there are a lot of very smart people on here, and I bet somebody knows how to fix it... or at least I hope so! Meanwhile, this completely IT-Clueless person will sit back with her fingers crossed. Anyway, originally I wanted to comment to congratulate the next batch of people who received their notifications! Best of luck to everyone still waiting, and I'm sorry that you don't have the spreadsheet available as a resource right now. :C It's fixed it's fixed!!!!!! I just noticed.. Thank you, whoever took care of that maybe we should all download the current version just in case it happens again
  14. Nonono but I want you all there, too! But seriously, you guys got so far. I hope you find something that ends up being an even better fit and a more exciting and powerful experience for you than you could have ever imagined!
  15. You guys! You guys! Congrats! I got the (P), too! Why are they working at 9pm?! Big hugs to all you UK applicants, and thanks to all of you who helped me through it, and good luck to everyone still waiting!
