Received the letter in Toronto today. Score of 17.5/20 for the CGS-D!

I’m in downtown Toronto and haven’t received anything yet!

Also waiting in Toronto for my letter- my school doesn’t provide the results to applicants. Going out of town on Monday for a week and was really hoping to get the news before I leave... the wait continues

I am currently in a PhD clinical psychology program in Canada and although I love my clinical work, I am really interested in pursuing a career in academia. I have heard mixed messages from people in the field about what is required in order to attain a competitive post doc after graduation, and ultimately, a tenure-track position. I am wondering if anyone has received advice from advisers, post-docs, or other mentors, about what is the requirement in order to be successful in achieving a post-doc position. For example, number of publications (any and first author)/ posters, or experiences that are really necessary in order to achieve these positions. My adviser has been helpful in getting me involved with projects to get as many publications as possible, but I really want to know how many manuscripts do I need to be putting out before I am done graduate school, or will I ever know if I have done enough?

Okay I guess it was just very different in the programs I applied to as I was offered spots before I got SSHRC, and the department wasn't aware I was awarded it until after I knew. My understanding was that admissions and the SSHRC committee have absolutely no interaction so as to not bias the results. I was actually offered SSHRC at institutions I was not admitted, which I could have used to persuade my admittance if I had not already accepted another offer. I never felt anyone was using the SSHRC as a recruitment technique, but maybe that was just my experience.

I am just wondering why you think this? Do you mind explaining?

So, I was just extended an offer to OISE clinical and counseling. I was not given an interview and had not heard anything back until today. So I had already accepted at Ryerson. Any insight into the comparison of these two programs? Did I do the right thing? Haha

Offered at Ryerson, Lakehead, and U of Regina. Will be accepting at Ryerson because that's where I am going :)

My friends and I have all gotten emails saying our status has changed at many different schools. I've gotten 3 emails so far saying my stats was updated... for 3 different schools. I seriously doubt that means we have recieved the award at all these places. I'm pretty sure it is just the committee made a decision either way. There are only so many CGS to go around, and by how many people I know who have recieved emails I do not think you can interpret it either way.

In all of my interviews I was 100% honest. After every interview I wrote down things I liked and things I didn't like about the supervisor. And, the programs where I didn't feel a connection with the supervisor, or had many cons about their style, I was wait listed. The ones where I felt like everything that was said was consistent with me, I was accepted. I think sometimes we forget that we are also interviewing our POI. Instead of changing your mind so you fit the program or your supervisor, find a program that fits to you. At the end of an interview with the DCT at a program I was accepted to, she stated that she was amazed at how similar in personality I am to my POI. If you are honest you are much more likely to find a perfect match in every aspect, and even if you are nervous you are still able to just be yourself.

A friend of mine had 2 interviews at U of S and is on the waitlist. Another person I know had 3 interviews and has an offer. Hope this helps.

I was told with my offer that I will be informed of SSHRC April 1 (which is standard). I was also told that if I am not successful with SSHRC I will be considered for OGS and to send an updated CV by April 15. So I am guessing I won't be informed about OGS until later in the spring. Obviously every school is different, so you could definitely ask them if they have a different timeline. If you are deciding between 2 schools I think it's best to go in thinking you won't be successful with external funding. Go with the program that you feel is best for you, and also the program that offers the best internal funding.

Correct. UBC and OISE are the only CPA accredited school and child programs in Canada.
